I think that's a bit restrictive; all major city hospitals have on-duty specialists including a posterior specialist (retinal). So if you live in a reasonably big city you could call and ask... .
My ex who does many a night-duty would have looked at you and may have chosen to do immediate surgery. Btw, The usual purpose of using a laser for retinal surgery is to stop bleeding if need be.

Well, that absolutely wasn't the case with this hospital. Although, I wished that is what they did, instead of telling me to drive to another hospital. I guess that's just a testament that the first doctor was just a bad doctor or that the hospital lacked proper equipment, or both. There didn't lack the proper equipment to bill me, though.
Edit: If anyone is curious, I saw the bill that the hospital sent my insurance. It was a little over $10,000 for the surgery
. I give insurance a lot of grief about being a scam/gambling and whatnot, but in this instance I was glad that I had it. (blue cross gambled and lost, BIG TIME - lol) I was only responsible for a few hundred of it, which I graciously paid.

I had random a blind spot a couple years ago(not related to lasers ), went to the hospital. They were practically useless... They were able to send me to someone, who sent me to someone else who was able to help. LolWell, that absolutely wasn't the case with this hospital. I have a set of these and I can confirm that they stop everything in the visible light spectrum plus ir and uv. They even have a fairly high od for x-rays - although they do let some pass.
