Derail a bit,

When I played F.E.A.R.2 Project Origin,
The game on High settings has like a movie-like Grain Film effect,

For whatever reason, it made my eyes sore after 30 minutes of gameplay that blinking hurted like hell, I could not play anymore what so ever!

I have never experienced anything like that what-so-ever.

Film Grain in Mass Effect does not produce the sore eyes effect no matter how long I play. I do turn it off though.

Anybody else experienced something similar?

I mean, I never EVER had any problems playing ANY game what-so-ever!
And playing FEAR2 caused me to twich my eyes and peak though eyelids when I looked into a light source (ingame, not real world).

Really weird.
I can play though portal 5 times in a row, would never get any kind of problems like headache or nausia or anything.

Finished the game last night. Amazingly creative, and crazy what people can do with it. The deep hole/tall towers one gives me a headache, it took me a while to figure out which way I needed to be pointing going into one to be facing the right way coming out the other side for each step.

Oh, and I did the whole game on my laptop's touchpad without a mouse. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.

And if not for that whole "killing you" thing, I think the tripod guns would make excellent pets.

I bow down before you and humbly request to simply be in your presence while you play!

I would never imagine playing any FP game in touchpad. Maybe CS with AFK opponents :D
But Portal?!
No way!

LOL, it wasn't that bad. The ones that you have to shoot while flying took a couple of tries, but they were all doable. And I got myself killed in the incinerator door on the last level 3 or 4 times, but that was about it as far as trouble.

The key for me is a very sensitive setting, where the size of the pad roughly equals the size of the screen. Once I got that right, it wasn't too bad.

Higher sensitivity never occured to me, as touchpad would be too fast to use in OS.

Would also take practise to aim it also... Kind of hard to hit distant small targets that way.

But a great idea! I applaude to you , for finishing Portal with touchpad!

Thanks!

I had to finish it last night too, because we're going out of town this weekend, and it would've bugged me all weekend if I wasn't done. We're going whitewater rafting on the Kaweah River, and then Sequoia National Park for a day. Pretty sweet. In fact, I need to go pack now, so I'm outta here.

For what reason do you make me suffer so much?!

You have room for one more in there? :)

Take PICZ!!!

I finished the game (you just lost) and all advanced chambers without any glitches or weird looking colours in the background! :topic:

What is this "Portal: Prelude" thing? I don't understand how to install it... I'm totally new to Steam and all that.

I think I have the file downloaded on Steam, but I can't see anything different when I re-start.
I don't play any other games... I just really like this one and I want moar!
Go here: Portal: Prelude
Read FAQ, download, play through Steam. :)

I have done that a dozen times but it doesn't work. I'm probably doing something wrong but I don't know what.

@FML trying it now. Can you post any details possible about the shortcut to run it (might be right-click->properties, I haven't tried), or show the console output from the game when trying to run as mod? (Enable it in Keyboard options, then hit ` key, copy text).

I don't quite understand what you're saying, but I do appreciate your help. I log on to steam from my desktop and go to my games list and click "play" on portal: prelude and it just starts the normal portal. That's the correct way to do it from what I've read and understood, kind of.

That is how it should work. Screenshots below:
1. Steam games list with Portal" Prelude selected
2. Dialogue box that indicates that Prelude is starting
3. Splash "warning" screen
4. Domo animation (press "Enter" to skip)
5. Portal: prelude start screen (yours may look like the regular Portal screen [initial room]). Just click "new game"

If this doesn't work for you. You may want to try to re-install, or search on Google or Portal: Prelude forums. :p
