Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

Yup^^ That's why I'm going for 5 in series and possibly another 5 in parallel with the first 5 :D

Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

Pretty much :p

The more you have, the more fun you can have

Fiddy, I want to see your 6 caps in action :D Also, wouldn't it be better to run them in parallel? The voltage will decrease therefor dropping the risk of electric shock.

You really dont want to get shocked with these... not to mention 6... That would be lethal.

as Things said, 15V wont do shit to you, your skin is a decent insulator, ever try putting your hands across a car battery!

Saying that i was doing up the positive battery terminal on my car with a spanner, and leaning ontop of my alloy air-box (which is grounded) with my other hand which had a decent cut on it, i was getting tingling/burning sensation through the cut on my hand!

Ive been playing with electricity for a while, my old tafe had 3 phase 41.5V (10x smaller than actual mains). 41.5VAC 2 phase across a ring on my finger made my finger tingle and move involuntary!

Nope, 6 of them is only 15V. You won't even feel it. You're going to need to approach close to 50V before you'll start feeling anything, and that's a hell of a lot of supercaps.

Putting them in series means you have a higher voltage, but the same current handling. Higher voltage means it can force more current through a higher resistance load.

That is spot on!

Also id like to mention that the capacitance drops in series, it was taught to me that in series you are effectively increasing the air gap between the 2 plates in the capacitor, decreasing its capacitance.

Formula for series

C total = 1/ (1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3) etc

And that in series you are effectively increasing the plates surface so the capacitance increases.

Formula for parallel

C total = C1+C2+C3 etc

Yup^^ That's why I'm going for 5 in series and possibly another 5 in parallel with the first 5 :D

That will be a monster :)

Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

yeh, I know that 12 volts wont do anything to you but theres always the risk of accidentaly spiking yourself with the wires or touching them on a wound. Still, thats like 0.001%.

Adrian, put me down for 4 :)

Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

hehe yup, only dangers are burns at this stage :)
good to see your jumping on the band wagon!

a good thing i saw was using these for a coil gun or aka a rail gun!
i may look into it as i work with induction coils at work :)

Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

Wish I could go in for more of these, looks like I can only take 1 for now. Dead broke at the moment :(

Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

Use induction to melt metal now do you? :D

Things, I can send $10 your way if you want so you can pick up an extra, maybe in the next few days :)

:D :D :D Feel the love ...

Also, cheers for that image TJ, very effective at diminishing my appetite, although I swear I've seen that image before, you must have quite an online presence :D ;)

Re: GB: Australia Ultra-Capacitor

Wow, that's extremely generous of everyone :)

Hmm, remind me if I ever travel to Sydney to meet up with all of you. Surely there is enough of you for a LEM by now?? :D
