By the way, can you tell me more about your Aquarius? I have always liked the PGL-III-A and want one in blue. Is stability and duty cycle good?

Well, I really like mine. (And yeah it is PGL-III-A).. The duty cycle is great, it doesnt seem to even dim after 90 seconds and never really goes TEM01.. I'm happy with it, very. The only disappointmet is battery life on the small cells (I use RCR123A). The only other gripe I'd maybe have is the momentary switch.

I should do a review on it as it was actually my first laser that got me into LPF here. Still a very good laser; I absolutely believe LG's 80mw peak claim, though I need to get it (and this PGL-III-C) down to the university to test it.

.. With going with the PGL-III-C-50mW 473 (I figured, CNI's top of the line portable 473, right?) I was hoping I'd be upping the ante a bit, but seems not... After a minute the PGL-III-A is going strong but the PGL-III-C is just a trickle.. :\ Really not looking forward to having to ship it back to CNI; or bother Glenn too much on it

Hey aryntha, it c/b best if we do get that PGL 473 nm back to CNI as it sounds like it is not in spec now. I believe I had it testing on my Kenometer at about 75mW but this is sometimes known to change. Also, we need to return it in the first 30 days if we want CNI to pay the shipping. So sorry the unit seems to have gone through a change, but I see this sometimes from shipping.
& I'll get you that quote in a minute.. -Glenn

Okay.. Am a little nervous as well, been waiting so long on it! -- Do these exchanges usually go okay? Are they a mess, complex? I hope we're not talking another 4 months or so!

The PGL-III-C-473-50mw -- for the ONE SECOND that it's bright, its freaking amazing... Then, bleh.. 5mW maybe.

Lets get the GB#9 quote going yeah, and.. I'm at least going to try a new set of 18650s tonight but... Hmm... It's definitely not doing 75mW... I wish it was!

Well, I finally charged up the 18650, put it in my NEW 473, & was rewarded with three, 60 second readings of 79mW's, after which the mW's dropped off to ~ 56mW's for the next 30 seconds, where I cut the power off for cool downs. The color is a beautiful peacock blue in TEM00 for the entire duration of all 3 tests. I'm VERY PLEASED with the performance & color of this laser, & would like to thank Glenn for running these GB's for the Forum, it sure is nice of him. rob

Phoenix, I'm going to look at some 60-second limited runs of mine; I may be able to manage that.... I'm trying to figure out exactly what's going on to make mine drop to ~10mW...

but basically what was your pacing?

Was it 60 seconds, (how long of a pause), x3 -, a pause between each, and then the 30 second run after those, dropped to 56mWs?

Or was it three 90-second runs, with the first 60 of each outputting ~79mW?

so sorry to hear about the troubles you've been having with the 473, Aryntha. It does seem like a mystery as to what's causing the dive...

let me know when any pics/reviews on the 589nm are up!:wave:

peace & thanks

It was 3- 90 second runs. I hope your trouble lies with the battery, & not with your laser, pal. rob

Glenn --

I got my replacement GLP-473 today. This one works good at "shirt pocket temperature". I've seen 12 mW peaks. This was worth the wait.
I will do a review on this one.

Thanks again Glenn -

I've got a theory on the 473 -- but I don't wanna say anything or speak too soon. Still doing some testing.

The 589 review won't be a problem. I think Glenn's 45mW measurement was, er, um. Conservative.

EDIT: Can y'all say "preview"? I knew ya could.

cmak --- How are you coming on your collection? I thought you were going to have these within about 6 months. You need to get ordering. I see you removed the deadline date now.

Still waiting on my 473nm PGL, there was a little mix up and now I'm not getting the GLP.
But WOW that 589nm sure does look pretty! Maybe a little oranger than the 593.5 nm? That's one pretty laser nice buy!

Private message scopeguy, the guy who started the thread, and he'll tell you prices and how to order.
BTW YOU WILL NEED SAFETY GOGGLES! 400mw is ridiculously bright. You might want to start out with something a little less powerful.

Hey Aryntha, I ran a couple more tests with my 473. These were 120 second (2 min.) tests, & I noticed something. After the power drop-off after the 1st 60-90 seconds, the power climbed back up to 79mW's & stayed there till I ended the test at the 2 min. mark. Maybe your laser just needs to run a while to warm up some till it puts out peak power. rob
