Do the experiment, Andy.

Press the diode into an AixiZ.  If it is a violet diode, solder the negative pin and the case pin together.  

Now connect the driver to the diode as usual.

Only connect the positive wire to the power source.  

Connect the negative from the power source to the module.

Turn on the power.  ;)

Yes (on both counts ;)  )

That is the set-up I have used in over 50 lasers.  It is the way the Kryton series is designed to be used.  

With the polarity reversed, it is the way virtually ALL pen-style pointers (including Leadlights) are wired.

ok...im trying to buy the kit lol....if its over 100 bucks im not buying it cause i could get all the parts for way less...its a newwish though.. i was kinda hoping for a leadlight but whatver lol

Yes. Almost all of the pen-style pointers are wired this way. The diodes they use in those are wired for case positive so the polarity is reversed, but the wiring scheme is the same. The body of the pointer is an electrical path. In the case of a "stock" leadlight or newish they are case positive. When we rebuild them we make them case negative.

hmm i always make them case positive so the 10440 makes a good contact on the bottom of the tube :-? but different strokes for different folks

I am using a flexdrive and 2 AAA batteries to power my laser...but yes you could switch it so the case is negative or positive...

if i am using 2 AAA with a flexdrive in a newwish host do i need to make it case positive? or drop the magnet in?

And for the people who don't have rare earth magnets lying around, you can use a spring from a push pen.

It depends on how you connect it.
You can connect the case pin to the negative (both on the diode), and it will be case negative.

Ok, listen:

Do it the way Andy does it.
If you connect the case pin to the negative pin, it will work, but you will have bad ground, unless you do the "solder blob" technique, like Jayrob does.

So, if you bend the negative wire around the plastic casing, it will make good contact when you put it back in.
