Don't washers already have a hole? What kind of drilling do you want done?

i use a vise with grooves and put the washer in and drill with my drill on slow and dont put much pressure on it so it doesn't bend.

just go slow and be careful

drill press would be best though

Drill and bit? I like step bits.

Drill press would be even better.

I echo the step drill as it helps to prevent the judder that you will get using a standard drill.....

I personally would use a lathe but I know that is not an option for everyone.

I have done this before! ;D The best way to do it is by firmly securing it to a drill press and slowly lowering the drill into it to get a clean hole. Now, if you want the hole for an axiz module then use a 17/32 drill bit. ;)

Try ebay first, I picked up a good one for $21 yesterday (item 220271468767 ) The cheap ones for the DIY market are a bit flimsy sometimes.

[edit] I thought I would show you what you can get for £10.50 from ebay ;)[/edit]

Re: Anyone know an easy way to drill through washe

The few times that I've enlarged the hole in a washer, I think I just clamped one (very tightly!) in a vise-grip (locking pliers) and used my drill/step bit to enlarge it.  Also, I've found a cordless impact driver better than a standard cordless drill, like this one, as it doesn't bind up while drilling and drills much faster.

EDIT: when I say clamp in vise grips, I mean clamp to one edge of the washer, NOT try to "hold" it by the edges with the pliers since you will likely not get a very good grip on it that way and it will likely bend if you put a lot of pressure on it.

I start from small drill bits and slowly move up to help prevent the torque of the washer edge catching.

For better grab, slit the side of a piece of pipe/tubing which fits the od of the washer. Place the washer in the pipe and clamp it with a vice to hold it. A bit extreme but it depends on your needs.
