I'm sad to announce that after over 5 years in business, BitLasers.com will no longer be selling handheld lasers. If you've visited our store in the last month or so you may have noticed that many models have disappeared from the catalog. At the time of writing, only one piece is left: 700mW Forest Green 520nm Handheld
After the last stock is sold, it's over, we won't be restocking any more handheld lasers.
I created BitLasers in 2012 mainly to support the then extremely young cryptocurrency market, and I'm very happy with how popular that has become as a payment method. All of it is probably not just because of me of course, but since I opened the store, numerous other laser related merchants have started accepting bitcoin too, including Wicked Lasers, Sanwu, Fasttech, Eudaimonium, DTR (although he had to stop due to some trouble) etc.
Eventually I started accepting other payment methods as well, such as paypal. The store never got very big, but it helped a lot with paying bills while I studied, and it has also taught me a lot about managing a business, customer service etc. It has been a valuable experience.
The reason for the closure is multifaceted. For one, I'm about to start my master's thesis and will likely have less time available. Another reason is that my financial situation has changed somewhat and I no longer strictly need the extra money. A third reason is something that I'm sure everyone feels the looming presence of in this hobby these days: Law. Lasers have become more and more restricted in the recent years, and although I believe I'm still operating within the legal boundaries, it's becoming a liability.
Note that this post only applies to the handheld lasers we sell. I will still sell and support laser show related products such as the LaserShowGen software and the Helios Laser DAC. I'll probably redesign the entire site with that in mind though, so there might no longer a proper "BitLasers" brand any more.
I'd like to thank everyone who bought anything from the store at one point, or helped me in any other way on this forum. I probably won't be super active here from now on (as I haven't been in the recent months either). If you need me, the quickest way is my email: gitlem at gmail.com
