Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Are they usually as dim as the one I received?

mine has an extremely bright dot, the beam is visible under office lights and at dusk. when mine DOES dim, it's like the one in your video. 80% of the time I can simply hold it on for 10-30 seconds and it gains full brightness, after that it turns on to full power each time.

Oh alright. Sometime mine is a litte brighter than in the video and other times it is darker but at no point was it brighter than my radio shack 5mw green.

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Thanks for the review!!

It wasn't in your favor :p Looks like he got a dud.

No - If you refer to my post 187 http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/new-stock-overspec-5mw-green-50256-8.html#post740662, I reported results from testing with a power meter:

I got 5 of these random pointers, and all but one appeared bright.
1 = 22mW
2 = 26mW
3 = 23mW
4 = 29mW
5 = 15mW

PS - Until you measure your Radio Shack pointer, you can't say it's "true 5mW" - likely isn't...

... can you see the beam on a true 5mW green?

At night I could see my old 1mW 532nm when it was fully dark in my room, dunno if it's over spec or not etc but that's my input.

Still any of these available? I'd like to take one of your hands, how much would shipping to the UK be?

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Today I received a replacement laser from Revoc Technologies/swimminsurfer256. The first laser that I received from swimminsurfer256 didn't work correctly and was told it was a "dud" and to send it back. I sent the laser via the cheapest option that USPS had available online and that costed $5.44 (so $5.44 return shipping on a $12.50 laser) So I am now $17.94 into a laser. I received the new laser a week later. If you view the video you can see the laser in action. For $17.94 I was expecting a little bit more in terms if power.

I have a video and some pictures on my website:

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

I have a video and some pictures on my website:

There you go again, calling your Radio Shack pointer "5mW". Dude, it's advertised as being 5mW, but until you show video of it reading 5mW on a power meter, your video is pretty much meaningless. I'm not disputing your claim, just saying you need a lot more evidence than shining some dots on camera. Send them all to me if you want - I'll test them and let you know what the power really is. I got 5 of these, and they're all 15-30mW, which is overspec as advertised.

Also, have you tried running the laser for a minute or so and observing the brightness? Obviously these are cheaply made, and the crystals aren't anywhere near as good as more expensive pointers, and they need varying degrees of warmup time.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If you want reliable higher power, you should be looking at one of the reputable websites and not playing roulette with these, which is exactly what swimminsurfer256 originally said this would be.

swimminsurfer256, if I were you, I would fire up the returned laser and see what the power output really is. If these are ultra weak for some reason, you have an issue to deal with your distributor, depending on their advertised claim...

I am saying the radioshack laser is advertised as. I would expect a laser that is being advertised as
usually overspec to ~35mW [sometimes upwards of 50 or 60mW
to be bright than a laser that is being advertised as 5mw.

My lasers are actually also being advertised as "5mW" (see the title of this entire post). I just happen to mention that they are overspec. And what you are getting IS a >5mW pointer, and until you come up with a laser that I sell that isn't >5mW, then you can flame me all you want.

How do you know your RadioShack isn't outputting 40mW+?

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

I'm new here and I bought 2 of them. Never owned a green before. These have a solid feel in your hand. They arrived in 3-4 days with the regular mail option.

Bright, you bet. I aimed them at an off white wall 30' away. Woah, you don't want to look at the spot very long at all. One is a little brighter than the other. The dimmer one has a better dot. The one(dimmer) seemed to brighten a little after a min of use.

Beam: In a day lit room, blinds open, no beam unless dust passes by. Evening in a room with a 100watt light on and a 43" tv, the beam is visible. Outside at night, the beam is very visible. There was little to no visible haze and I was easily doing a dual light show on trees 800' away with the beam visible what appeared to be all the way, faded some near the tree leaves. The spot was bright on the leaves so that may be why it looked like the beam faded. My own property, very rural, so no problems.

Will it burn? At contact on black tape or a black "cole slaw" take out cup, no.
Test: With a photographic filter between me and the target to protect my eyes, I unscrewed the front end of an Aixiz housing and held it flush to the pen opening. Focused it to a point on the plastic slaw cup. 1 second instant hole! Woot! I easily made a 1/2" line of melted plastic(its thin) with holes in it. I tried the dimmer one and it will do the same, but takes noticeably longer.
Both were drawing 200ma measured at the battery. The dimmer one abt 175-200ma fluctuating.

They are represented as a 5mw 532nm Green(very overspec) and I can't disagree. I've read for weeks now on this forum and mine are way above what a 5mw is described as. Hopefully I can remove the diode/driver assembly and mount an Aixiz focusable with a good lens in it and a new host!

IMO I think it's a good buy for $12.50 shipped from in the states guaranteed not DOA. Safety glasses are next and then I can see a couple more of these in my future.
