So I've been scouring these forums for about 2 weeks now, and was just making sure... the only way to avoid paying big money for a yellow pointer is to build the tri (bluray/red/green) color laser. Since I'm pretty ignorant (I admit this) about a lot of what's going on, I just figured I'd get a thread goin about YELLOW. That oh-so-cool looking 594nm.

Basically, I want a yellow laser, why? "WHY NOT?!" Althought I'd prefer not to devote most of my paycheck for this project. I'm not talking about a burning yellow, just a yellow DOT. All I've been able to find are the $300+ pointers on the web. Am I not looking in the right places? Are they really that rare? Am I crazy?

Anyway, feel free to enlighten me. (I might be wrong about the 594, but I seem to recall that's correct).

Edit: Oh, when I say "most of my paycheck" I don't mean to say that I'm cheap, just that's a lot of dough :S

building one won't be exactly yellow unless your rog da man his are close lol
but it looks like a fun project be sure to post the process so others can observe

Thanks for the link Gordon_B, I honestly doubt I could do half of that without youtube videos to guide me along. Anybody got a lathe? I work at a software company, we don't have these... Tools. (besides screwdriver sets)

I might be offering some machined aluminum pieces soon to make this possible for everone to do.

Peace All Pyro... :eg:

Yellow handhelds and other DPSS lab yellows are terribly inefficient and very unstable. The result is an expensive ~1mw pointer. With the RGV build, you can get ~50mw of very stable yellow if you like! Its just that it won't be the true 593nm color you prefer...

See my sig for pics. I think that the 594nm lasers are easily the best color, I absolutely adore it.

I just wish there was a way to aquire this color a little more easily, if this could be had for the same price/power ratio as green, I would be in heaven! :D

post 532!

Well... it's sorta been settled. Since starting this thread, I've definitely paid for a yellow.

Hahahaha. I'll take pics when I get it.

I actually bought it from a friend. But he knows his ish, and says it's worth the money (not underspec). I guess I'll find out more when it gets here. (excited)

A good lab yellow would definitely not be unstable. It has all the temperature controls required to make it stable. The pointer you are correct about, because it lacks all the temp control features.

As far as a burning yellow laser, which is truely 593.5, you'll be spending much more than your paycheck. Unless your paychecks are like $30,000 :eg:

with an open can red at 300mW and 532nm at 50mW, you'll have 350mW of yellow. Add pots to them and you'll be able to change the shade.

I myself am a fan of the HeNe yellow, 594nm. Although, a burning yellow HeNe does not exist. Mine clocks in at around 4mW.

^I couldn't give a precise shade (sounds orange though), but that would be as bright as 85mW of 594.
