Anybody know where to get one of these?
 





I know United Nuclear sells them but the price is probably terrible like everything else on that site.
 
I'm guessing your gonna point your laser at it and see how fast you can get it to spin... :D make a nice video.. and make sure you strap it down, don't want it flying away :whistle:
 
Hey i use the one from think geek with my rpl..... make sure you expand the dot don't want to burn off the coatings : )
35W HID also works well : )
 
Here's an Idea...

1) Take a Radiometer and a Non contact digital RPM Meter...
2) shine a Laser beam on the Radiometer's Vanes
3) use the Non contact digital RPM Meter to take a reading of the RPM.
4) use that speed to calculate the Laser's power in mW.....

There you go... another DIY Laser Power Meter project...:cool:

BTW... eBay has Radiometers as well...

i have one from ebay and its really fun as long as you use goggles because the laser flashes everywhere.

Hey great idea.. dont know about accuracy, but its a good way to measure the power of lasers of any wavelength. Power rang would be quite low.. maybe around 5-150mw, and a guess at accuracy would be around 20-30%, alot of variables must be taken into account.
 
I never said it would be as accurate as a LaserBee I or Kenometer....:crackup::crackup:
But it should let you know which laser has a higher output..

True I guess all you need is a LPM tested laser to compare to.. then you can take your readings off that. that would also help increase accuracy, since the only unknown is the power of the second laser, the rest of the apparatus has not changed (except for maybe ambient light... eg sun going behind cloud).

Good idea tho!
