WTB - Osram 450nm PL-450 (NOT PL-450B)

This one on ebay is much cheaper: OSRAM PL 450 450nm 50 80mW Blue Laser Diode Single Mode in TO38 Icut Package | eBay but I've ordered things from them before which were not what they said they were in their description, so I stopped ordering from them.

That's the exact one I have been looking at, It was also the exact one I ordered before and it was the correct one when I received it. Just as you stated though, the Item Title is different than the item Description. The title shows and describes the correct one. The description is the B version. They also sell a 445nm supposedly at 5mw in Pen format already... I don't believe it really is 5mw though.

I bought one from LaserLands ebay last time, I just don't like how the body and description say two different things. I'd really rather not spend 65.00 for a 5mw diode.

Hi Trend,
i buy those that Alaskan mentioned , Check out the link that Alaskan put up these are ok .So see what else that seller has to offer. Techood and Exitostem are reputable sellers. I use them and never had a issue You can find what your looking for from 18.00 to 24.00 all new diodes. Give it a shot plenty of LOW power diodes to choose from.

What do you mean by "these are ok"? Do you mean that you have purchased the PL-450B and you have put it on a LPM and were able to get it to 5mw output? The datasheet seems to state otherwise. Where are you finding "Techood" and "Exitostem"? I was not able to find an ebay store or results when I googled either. *Edit* I found a Techhood ebay store. Also I have searched ebay for 450nm and 445nm low power diodes. I have also searched the forum quite extensively. I have found exactly two diodes that have been shown to lase at 5mw. First is the PL-450 original 80mw diode. The second being NDB7242E. The latter I have not found a source for. I have also not heard back from Laserman. I appreciate your willingness to help.

I bought a 445nm pen on ebay a year ago and it does about 12mW.

Hi ,
There are 50 to 80W 450's there, maybe you can find a small low power mW pen 450 to suit your needs. Laser Pointer pro might a small beginners type of low power laser you want in 450nm cheap. Arima Lasers there online looks what your search for.

Can you confirm that they lase at 5mw? Can you please provide links with data? Again I am not able to find data to substantiate your claims. Please see my above quote.

Thanks,
Ben

Ok this what i found so far.. Google ( 5mW 450nM laser diodes ) then scroll and find it will say images of 5mW 450nM laser diodes. click on that and many bare diodes and modules come up.

Hi,
Osram only makes a 50 and a 80mW single mode. I can't understand why are you looking for something that doesn't exist . Even if you buy a Osram 450 and get it down to 5mW's whats the point? You can get a simple 450nm diode at 5,10,20 mW's in a module online it's a simple search.I see that you don't build very much in your profile so why all this. Do your self a favor if you want a 5mW 450 and buy a 10.00 pen. Hey sorry i did what i could good luck..

You are clearly not very good at giving advice. Why you would say that the Osram PL-450 does not exist is beyond me. I have owned one. There is also the PL-450B by osram. There is also the PLP450 and the PLTP450B. I have clearly been trying to probe you for more information because your posts have been useless. If you think for a minute that a 10.00 laser from ebay is actually 5mw you need to rethink this hobby. As well as you will see many ebay items saying both 405nm and 450nm in the same post. These are clearly not legit. I am also not sure why you are questioning my desire for a 5mw 450nm laser in any form factor I desire. Please re-read my replies and see that you failed to answer any of my questions in attempts to probe useful information from your replies.

This isn't the first time I've even had this issue with you. It's like you don't read or understand what people are telling you. This thread has explained exactly why I want a 5mw diode. You have failed to provide links or datasheets or model numbers, or manufacturers. DTR even spelled it out for you on the thread I made back in june about wanting to build my first one.

Trend, is the PL450 cheaper or more expensive than the PL450-B or cheaper? If the -B is cheaper, why not drive it as low as possible and use a filter/filters to get it down to safe levels? Much simpler and cheaper maybe, no?

That is a thought I considered. The price difference is about 5 dollars. I don't mind paying for the correct diode. The problem is I would have to attach the filter. Not a big issue but still more work in the long run. I will do this as a last resort. I did happen to harvest a small red AR filter from a drive the other day. Realistically I'd still prolly buy a new filter though. It's a good option but not my first choice. I appreciate your input and I do think that would be a working option.

I realize that what I am requesting is a bit abnormal. There are NO youtube videos on this wavelength at 5mw. There are very few threads on this, but there are a couple. Please don't feel I haven't researched this. I have quite a bit. I have found two useful diode models, one of which is completely not available unless Laserman121 still has any, and the PL-450. I am open to purchasing either of those primarily. I would also be open to any other diode selections with tested data to back it up. I would also be open to anyone with any working history with getting a 445nm or 450nm down to 5mw, either with filters or driving them directly.

Now laserlands sells them on their website
http://www.laserlands.net/laser-diode-2/blue-laser-400-500nm/450d-50-xl.html
But they also have them on their ebay page much cheaper. The issue is it seems their ebay is confused as to whether they are the PL-450 or PL-450B.
Also Newegg has them:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...gclid=CPmIvvWYtMkCFZGMaQodjVEBog&gclsrc=aw.ds
But again they are more expensive.

And here is the confusing ebay post:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/400551489091?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82
I say confusing because the item says OSRAM PL-450 450nm 50-80mw Blue Laser Diode Single Mode in TO38 ICut Package
The Description shows OSRAM 450nm 50mw-80mw Blue Laser Diode LD Single Mode PL450B TO38 3.8mm
I'm hoping the description is just a "form" they pasted.

Then there is the one from Rayfoss:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/180779533311?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82
