Just a little clarification:
The tutorial from I-hacked used pictures from when the DJR Fullbody was still a "Full-Body" Version 1, when I updated the DJR fullbody to the "V2", the slots do not gothrough all the way anymore, (like in the pictures from I-hacked.com.

The Sliver is a completely different host and will not work in the DJR, even though the 'sinks look similar in design in thier original versions (slots all the way through).

Additionally, there are two-versions of the DJR heatsink, The original-one one is a simple "donut" which replaces the reflector in the host, whereas the DJR "full-body" replaces everything inside of the head, (either the V1 with slots or the updated V2 with partial-slot). The "original" DJR heatsink, (donut-shaped) does not build the same as in the tutorial, it requires more work by the builder and provides less mass for heatsinking. There are tutorials on this forum for building with the "simple-version"

You can build a DJR-laser with either the simple "original" or "full-body" heatsink, but to build like the tutorial, you will need a "DJR full-body", (either V1 or V2), not the donut-shaped-one.

Thanks for clearing that up... What I meant was that it will work the same way as the one in the tutorial, but setup and shape/mass is different. These use a o-ring to hold the assembly in the head then a spring will be attached to the driver to make positive contact. It is not that much more work. This will still work perfectly with the old style host.

That is correct, you can build a DJR with the simple-HS, I always fit the small HS to the original head-module, but you could just add the spring and it would be similar to the I-hacked tutorial, just lots of extra-room.

A little information for those with a spare DJR "simple heatsink" , (not the Full-Body):
The "simple" DJR HS is also very usefull for other laser-projects besides the DJR, if you notice the build in this thread uses a DJR simple HS to hold the Aixiz module in his labby: http://laserpointerforums.com/f48/tiny-micro-labby-showcase-47132.html

Also, anyone interested in making a "phaser-mod", these simple heatsinks also fit perfectly inside of the phaser-host, similar to the one Jayrob made, although he built a optimized heatsink especially for his build with more mass. Many of the Phaser-mods that have been profesionally-built use the DJR "basic" heatsink:

when I do build this thing, should I solder the spring into the driver. Or should I just wire everything? If so what kind of wire should I buy or use.

I would solder the spring to the positive input of the driver and use case negative for your laser. Remember even though you are using it as case negative, you still need to solder the negative pin to the driver.

I have an old style one I made, I'd sell for $15 shipped, with two pairs of diffraction grating glasses for fun. These are the pics from my build. My heatsinks don't have a set screw though. I attach using thermal compound (which I'd include - also makes for best heatsinking).

i would love to buy your heatsink got anymore?
