WTB: Big Bright & Cheap Laser

Yeah, I know about DX. I am in the US.

I'm looking for a decent pointer, maybe an overdrived red 180MW-200MW is visible in dim light right? Or a greenie 50+MW should be ok.

Anyone have anything used, greenie or red? I had an overdriven red 200MW+ back in the day. I'm sure they have cheaper and more powerful diodes that won't burn out so quickly.

Thanks!

i have a 200mW red that i might be willing to sell, but atm, the tailcap is broken. If you still want one when i fix it, i will send a pm to you

I have a 50mW green that I put together from a module purchased from a forum member.  It runs good and is being powered from 3 AAA's.  It looks a little bit different because the module is much longer than an aixiz style and therefore sticks out the end about an inch.  However, if you wanted to take the time you could probably modify the insides so it could slide in further.  I made the heatsink and a setscrew holds the module tight.  I would sell it to a US buyer for $75.00 shipping included.  Pictures are in this thread http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1223854139/0 .  PM me if your interested.  I will give you first dibs...if anyone else is interested let me know also.

This is overdriven? Does it have an IR filter?

IR filters aren't really important at those powers, the IR output will be MUCH less than the green output. If you want an IR filter you can buy one from www.novalasers.com.

I do not believe it has an IR filter but like Diachi mentions at this power rating it doesn't really matter. The IR is probably very small and you would be safe as long as you didn't look directly into it as with all lasers :) As far as being overdriven...I don't think so. I know standstone11 sells them based on 3 volts (2 AA batteries) but with the proper cooling i.e. heatsink, you could probably drive these up to 6-7 volts and with a limited duty cycle it should be fine. As it is now, I think you could easily run it for 2-3 minutes and then turn it off for 30 seconds to cool. In reality, unless it is a lab type unit or rated for continuous use this should be a reasonable time period as a pointer. The other nice thing is that if something did happen to the module, you could just buy a new one from standstone11 ($12 to $24) and swap it out. The swap would take less than 2 minutes :) Also, I only offered it up because you wanted "Big, Bright, & Cheap" :) I paid $10 for the host, $26 for the module, maybe $10 for the heatsink, and $6 for shipping the module, so I may make 10 bucks after I ship it to the new owner ;D I'm not figuring in the time I spent putting it together (I usually make approx $100.00 an hour :D) and it did take at least an hour to build. Oh crap...I'll lose $90.00 :'( Anyway, enough jabbering...just let me know.

I can put you together a Red in a Kryton although it won't be necessarily "cheap" as it will be 300mw at least.
