Hey guys, I've got a little project I'd like to try out using these heads, however last time I went to connect mine up, I stupidly forgot the driver was 5V, and connected it to 12V. So yeah, that was the end of that.

Has anyone got one they'd wanna sell? Even if it's just the head? (Assuming the head is still functional, that is). I wouldn't mind overseas but, from what I can tell USPS has really ramped up their priority mail prices, so it'd probably cost a small fortune to ship!

Dan

I'd like to take a crack at restoring your blown one, if you're thinking of parting with it.

Eh, mine is a bit beyond repair, I've since torn it down in order to measure the characteristics of the TEC's and thermistors. Although if you want one of these heads, you could try contacting MarioMaster, he has (or at least had) a bunch of them.

Shipping from Aus would kill any kind of deal from me to you anyway :(

Mine is outputting over 84mW since my last re-alignment, and I would be willing to part with it, but honestly I don't know if the alignment would survive shipping, and shipping would be rather expensive! It is head + driver + 110v (might be 220 switchable, idr) psu.

Yeah shipping really, REALLY ramped up overseas... used to cost me $6 to mail stuff to Europe and now it costs me $12 :(

Curious to see what project you have lined up...

I'm actually planning on designing a driver for them, in a much smaller form factor than the original, higher powered and a hell of a lot simpler. I've obtained a bunch of data from my dead head, I just need a working one with driver to get an idea of their stock settings as a starting point, and of course so I can try the head on a DIY driver. I'll publish my findings and the driver on here when I can try it :)

Sorry, somehow managed to miss your post.

Well, I wouldn't require the power supply itself, just the laser head and it's driver, is all :)

Although I'd gather you would want a decent price for it seeing as you've realigned it, care to maybe throw out a figure (in PM if you want)?

I have a suspicion that USPS shipping for something like this would exceed $40 :(

How did you manage 84mW? Mine does 20mW around startup then deminishes to around 2-3mW in TEM01 in under 30sec.

I've got a spare driver if you need it, both my heads have been cannibalized though.

Sounds like a broken or dismounted or even disconnected TEC on the crystal set.
Crack it open and examine that nothing is loose. Seen this on 4 or 5 units out of 30.
Just dont fire it up without the cover unless you have 808-1064 protection.

I'm not seeing anything that looks like a TEC (white, flat, square) although I have a hunch that there MIGHT be one attached to the underside of the metal enclosure around the crystal set (on top of the crystals, under the metal) although I don't have a way of testing whether it's connected or not. I also don't posses IR protection yet.

This is how it looks from back to aperture (I'd post a picture but I'm using a mobile device)
Bundle of wires
Metal aperatace (pump diode?)
Black cylinder with lens
Metal part with 4 screws and large glass object underneath (crystal set?)
Black cylinder
White opaque plastic...situation (the part that glows with IR)
Aperature with IR filter

Yup, cmount pump & TEC with a thermistor in the block as well.

Anamorphic prism pair, rounds out a multi mode beam.

Another lens

Crystal set :)

Well, I see 2 sets of wires coming out, 2 grey from the side, and a red and black coming out one on each side. I assess the red and black is the TEC based off previous TECs having the wire as red and black, one on each side of the unit. That being said, nothing seems to be awry. Would opening the elcosure be a safe idea? Don't want to rattle anything loose...

Although I am getting tired of "having" 473, but not being able to enjoy it... I also HATE the divergence on this bugger.
