Is there anyone who makes 1000mW 532nm in a nice host at a decent, reasonable price? Also looking for a 500mW hand-held 63*nm with good focusing abilities.

You can get a Hercules-800 from Laserglow for a couple thousand...and I believe Roithner has a 1W PGL-III-C for $4,000 or thereabouts. Laserglow also has rather powerful 635nm lasers, several hundred milliwatts, not cheap either.

Its DPSS so at 1W actual output power is like 5 or 6W or something like that so unless u have an insanely good heatsink, thats gonna have an ugly duty cycle....at least in a portable....

Assuming 25-30% efficiency, it's 2.5W of pump power for 500mW of green.

That's a lot of heat. You will eventually get to a point where the batteries (even 18650s) can't pump out enough juice to keep the laser going.

That's the reason why the Hercules series use D cell batteries- because they can push out more current than a 18650, and for longer too.

The Hercules also has a fan to actively cool the laser module and pump diode. That would be a must at the high power levels it works at.

well he is looking for 1W green....so at a rate of 2.5W in/500mW out he is looking at 5W in/1W out

And if the MCA is 30% efficient and the pump is 50% efficient and the driver is 90% efficient, Which means at least 6.5 watts of heat. Plenty of P7/MCE flashlights take that kind of power/heat. It's certainly doable.

Why is it that conversion efficiency (potential) seems to be inversely related to pump amplitude? I keep hearing of insanely efficient 532nm DPSS squeezing even 50% input towards doubling. I hear of little microcystal tricks. Is a highly efficient xtal easier to grow for a relatively small 532 DPSS, than for a larger one?

Yes, but DPSS laser systems are temperature sensitive. LEDs, not so much. You know this.
As soon as the heat-sink is saturated with heat, the laser will become unstable. Active cooling is a must.

I'm afraid that we should wait the sale of the "true" green laser ;)

50% efficiency is NOT possible. Well, in a perfect loss free world using a 1064nm source it might be, but the mere act of frequency doubling makes 50% the maximum. Since your converting two 1065nm photons into one 532nm photon.

However DPSS lasers don't generally use 1064nm sources. At least not the ones hobbyists typically deal with. As it stands, there are losses in the system from both the 808nm to 1064nm conversion, and the 1064nm to 532nm conversion.

The highest efficiency I remember seeing for a 532nm DPSS was right around 30%.

I know he said DIY but I'm surprised no one has brought up WL's "1W green" yet

1W 532 labbies can be had for $1200, making them portable would take some effort. :)
This host should be able to fit one and already comes with a large battery. :D

Probably because it doesn't exsist. Only the Blue is 1W

*cough*

I think he was referring to the Spyder III 445nm being 1W, not saying that 1W 532s don't exist
