How much of a difference would a half turn make? What's the maximum focusing distance until the lens screws off?

It works the other direction. Screwing it "out" makes the focus closer. Screwing it "in" makes it focus farther away. So the question should be, "What's the minimum focusing distance before the lens screws out?" I don't think that you can get that close ;)
