Why no competitor to the Hercules?

@Hemlock_Mike

Maybe Justin can help out with data on the herc... obviously would be better from an impartial party, but better than nothing.

Romo---

Nice info -- Except for my momentary drop at 150 seconds, the Krypton seems higher average than the HERC for almost 4 minutes. Extended run time seems to lean toward the HERC. I can't explain the momentary drop to 660 mW on my Krypton but that is a nice laser!
Also I understand that that is rated at only 650 mW -- good!

Smeerworst, that's an awesome Hercules you have there. :)

Have you measured its divergence?

I'd love to see more hosts like the hercules. Its too bad its so expensive since the design is really good and delivers continous operation without any bs. I guess they could have done away with the fan by making the host even bigger, but its a good compromise.

I would also like to see hosts like the hercules with or without the fan. Dragon Lasers hulk series lasers uses the same host as the hercules (without the fan). For a while now I have been wondering if there is a source or a way to acquire hercules/hulk style hosts because I would love to put a 1W+ 445nm laser into one of those hosts. All of LG's lasers in the following series use a hercules/hulk style host
-Hulk (obviously)
-Aries
-Polaris
-Vega
-Orion
-Orion HV
- The entire scorpius series.
EDIT- The following companies also use similar hosts in some of there lasers
-Rayfoss
-Jetlasers
-Optotronics

Unfortunately the cheapest LG laser with that host is 230$ and the cheapest DL hulk is 195$. Anybody have any ideas on how we could obtain these hosts?!?!

The more I think about contracting a company to machine a bunch of these hosts and heat sinks to go with them the more I think a lot of people would love them.
EDIT- It would be nice to use C or D batteries to run a high power laser and not have it cost 500$ minimum. It would also be nice because there wouldn't really be a need to do any serious modifications to the host. The closest DIY to the herc/hulk host that I can think of is probably jayrobs maglite mod but even that doesn't use a finned heat sink.

Very nice. How do you like the hulk ultra?

I destroyed it out of anger and throwed it away...

Read all about it here.

http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/recieved-my-dl-hu-400mw-62023.html

Here's a quote out of it:

I spoke to our head technician about the problem you are having with your Hulk Ultra.

Basically he said TEM01 mode with two beams is normal for the Hulk Ultra at higher powers and replacing your laser again is not possible because the replacement may also have the same double beam. As long as the power of the laser is over 400mW, it is considered to be working well.

Normally if a customer has a working laser that they are not happy with, we can refund the laser within the first week. You have had your Hulk Ultra for over three months so that is not possible. If you are not happy with this outcome, we can give you an additional $100 coupon/discount on your next order.

Verysorry I can't give you a better result than this .......

I would never recommend it to anyone simple becouse DL states all there high powered hulks have it. That's why i bought the Hercules!

greetings.

Yea I remember reading that thread. Sorry to hear that, I own a DL hulk 100mW and I haven't had any problems with it. The way DL handled your situation was disgusting. But at least you have your beautiful hercules. I own a 2,500mW DPSS OEM laser from laserglow, it is incredible and laserglow was extremely helpful. I purchased it 2-2.5 years ago and I can still get help from them whenever I need it.

EDIT- too bad you threw out your hulk I would have taken it off your hands so I could make it into a new laser

Glad you have a working one from them on the first go.

Yes im still shocked by it, think it will be my last purchase from them sinds i allready have 4 spartans and nothing else they have is interesting to me.
But at least you have your beautiful hercules.
Amen to that!

Yeah should have thought about it myself.. but some things you just have to let go and go on.
Im buying one more laser for now, but they are out of stock for over a month. (the yellow HV from Laserglow)

Greetings,

The 2,500mW I have is a 532nm it's this one
Laserglow Technologies - Handheld Lasers, Alignment Lasers and Lab / OEM Lasers
They don't sell the 2,500mW model anymore and there prices have gotten very steep since I purchased it a while ago. It's kind of messed up because I got the 2,500mW for less than half of what they charge for a 2,000mW now. At the time I got it I payed a little bit over 1,500$ for it but now a 2,000mW from them costs 5,250$. But like I said they are one of the best laser companies I have ever dealt with.
