I can't post the link, but on ebay are listed several laser diodes, called BRIR(blue, red, infrared) at very low price.
I'm almost sure that this kind of diode come from PS3, and it is composed by 3 laser: blue, red and infrared(so the driver can read cd, dvd, bluray disc).
Does anyone know anything about this diode? the price is very low!!! I've seen other photos of the same diode, and I noticed that the pins are soldered to a base... :-?
Anyway, could be interesting to have 3 laser in one!(or, at least, a blue one at this price)

The stripped out PS3 ones have appeared on ebay before, I seem to remember they were advertised complete with holder and screws LOL.
The seller wanted loads of money for them......
You will kill it if you try to run the red and blue together and the focal lengths are different so one will always be out of focus.

NO -- $65 is too much for a PS3 sled. Those LD's have all 3 stacked in one housing. I ran one at very low mA to see what it looks like. As stated above --- Don't do it. Not worth your time. Can't focus both.

Watch the GB for the PS3 sleds here. DDL runs them frequently and I don't know if he has any left.

You mean that these diode are difficult to collimate or they are with bad output?
Sadly I've read this too late! :o :( I'm already the winner of the item on ebay for 60$!
However this diode have more than 5 pins but is ONLY blue(as stated in the auction), not the 3 lasers in one that I mentioned first.

That's the same thing as the blu-ray sleds in the group buy for $29, except on the eBay auction you don't get the neat optics along with the diode.

It's impossible to focus both into one beam, but it is easy to focus the blu-ray part. Just slap it in an Aixiz module and you can focus the BR from there.

Well you paid a bit much but you will love the beam. Stay under 40 mA on the Blu diode and you will get ~9 - 12 mW of 405.
Hey -- it's only money and this is a hobby ;D Handle with care - It is static sensative. Test your driver before connecting the LD.

Ok thanks! The fact is that I'm new on the forum and I don't have idea of what/who are GB, DDL or "the group" :-/

The reason you can't focus both at the same time is because they are different wavelength and not on the same axis. Even the sleds have a tiny auto focus drive in them.

eh i bet the 26mW is the same diode as from the ps3 sled...

Dont Be Fooled! because there aren't many other places to get bluray diodes from...

-ps3 sled 7-15mw
-bluray player 7-15mw
-HD-DVD player 7-15mw
-bluray burner 50-130mw

Just for this reason I chose the 18 mW, he says that comes from a PS3.

get it from psxboy same thing but for $32 with shipping and you get the optics

yea the ps3 diodes are not going to last very long at 18mw. They can be pushed to do 18mw, but basically if it is from the ps3 assembly, it will only run 7-15mw safely. 18 is an exaggeration i think.
