Which laser would be better at burning assuming they are at the same specification except for the color which is red and green at burning red matches?

The lower in the spectrum the better. So 405nm (blu-ray) will the best of the easily available colors.

Hasn´t a 808nm IR laser more burning power for the bucks
I mean you can get 500mW of 808nm for about $70 and 120-130mW of 405nm for the same price. I think, perfectly focused, the IR is the better burner.

I didn't really consider price, maybe I should've worded my last sentence better :yabbem:

mW for mW, IR will burn better, the problem is focusing IR.
It takes at least 2 lenses for a 5.6mm and several good lenses to focus a C-mount IR to a pinpoint dot.
I also do not recommend IR to a beginner. Much too dangerous, as you can not tell where the beam is pointing, or reflecting.
Stick with 405nm (Blu~Ray)

Yes i always read about thhis. " did i break my laser Pot modding it. whem i LOOK AT IT (wtf) i see a faint red dot."
yes id go with green for beginner cos pretty much you want the Cool factor and thr BURN factor then red then blu-ray as blu ray is exPenSiVe.
cheers

Ive burned with 405nm and 808nm side by side, IR was about 50-60mW stronger than the 230mW bluray. 405nm burned alot better in terms of various surfaces, relatively consistant, but IR wouldnt even smoke some black fabric, and another type of black fabric same color, diff material, almost went up in flames:eg:
Blu-ray is the better choice as stated, but in certain situations IR(808nm) can be a beast.

It depends on color of object you want to burn. In this case it is better to use green laser.
Reason: you see red matches because they reflect only red light (other wavelenghts/frquencys are absorbed), so if you light red match with red light it will absorb only small part of emitted energy and you won't be able to burn it quickly.
Of course, you want match to absorb the most of energy you gave to it, so use green laser.

Geez, people really blasted this guy without actually reading his question.

The typical bad thing about asking "what color burns better?" is usually that it is completely dependent on the object you're trying to burn. In this case though, as sephiroth noticed and many others didn't, the OP didn't ask simply "what color burns best?"

He asked about a very specific object and asked for a comparison between 2 very specific colors. He didn't ask "what color is better", he asked "which of these two will burn this object better?".

And to THAT question, as sephiroth says, the answer is pretty much a universal and unequivocal GREEN, as a red match reflects red light much more so than green light. He didn't ask the larger and basically useless question many of you apparently assume he did. He didn't ask anything about IR or violet light. He asked about a red match, with a red or green laser. Further discussion about burning and colors would be useful as well, if anyone had actually read his question and answered it, instead of blasting him for a question that he didn't actually ask.

hmmm... I apologize.. I did read the question wrong. My interpretation of his question was, which colour laser would burn better if they were the same spec on things such as a red match.

Sorry jfp999

As pullbangdead said, if the question is just which is better to burn a red match, red or green, then green is better of course. If you are reffering to a more general question - which laser is better for burning something - then of course it depends on what you want to burn with it. But I would suggest blu-ray, because IR is more risky and difficult to use.

It's all depends what you want, everyone has its own opinion!

No!
Opinions don´t matter.

This one

is a way faster than this one:

Yes it is important what do you want to burn, what color the material has, the output and the focus.
