what's a laser diode driver?

thank you guys for your links and your advice. Now i have aswered most of my questions, but can someone help me to find an adjustable driver (from ebay)? I saw very good reviews about this:
http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/Groove_2.php
but i prefer a cheaper driver to begin because i am sure that some diodes and drivers will get fried!!! :lasergun:
:anyone:

If a linear driver is what you are after you could get one of these.
Drivers : Mohgasm!, Because it feels so good.

These require two Li-Ions in series to carry enough voltage and you will need to heatsink it as it produces a ton of heat but it is a good quality linear driver.

If you want a driver that can run off a single Li-Ion and I did not see what exact diode you will be using when scanning through the thread but if it is a blueray or 445 you could get on the preorder for the new ben boost driver.
The Ben Boost Driver - $10.00 : Mohgasm!, Because it feels so good.

If it is a red or IR diode then you would want a boost/buck or buck driver and I would suggest going back and looking at the linear drivers for the moment as the Flexdrive which is one of the only buck/boost driver that I know of is not available at the moment unless another member knows a good buck/boost or buck driver that is available now.

holy cow my screen went white then, Stupid cheap shit nvidia. Ant can you let me know when those boost drivers are ready? I'm gonna need at least 3 :)

Sure :)

I should have all the parts I need to build them this month I'll let you know when I got some

I will have a linear for sale sometime this month for 3$. Otherwise the ghostdrive 2 is a linear driver for 6.99$ right now

anthot, are you the seller? can you send me further information and shipping costs (i am not from america)?
are they adjustable?

Yup I build the 3$ ones. They are fixed current with a resistor. There are not many pot modable drivers available anymore. The few that are left are dying out slowly. I can have one with an output current of 100mA set at that and you can only change it with a resistor.

There are no short answers for you, and its not that easy.

Just spend some extra money and get one preset.

Laser hobby is not cheap. If you cant afford it, you're wasting your time.

Wow, I really consider myself to be one of the more patient members of the forum. I will even step in and try to smooth over what some of our more "gruff" members say too a noob from time to time and try to make hem feel more welcome to the forum.

But I can't believe there is anyone still replying here!

Tech_Junkie, where is that video you made?

Can you change it to the text of this thread?
