Something not powered by batteries for a change:
An induction lamp next to a CFL of equal power (40W).
Induction lamps are like fluorescent lamps except the mercury is excited by induction. You can think of it as a transformer with that ring being the "primary winding" and the mercury in the glass as the secondary. They are almost as efficient as modern LEDs (70lm/W wall-plug efficiency on this one), and have a lifetime even greater (this one is 60,000 hours).
The large size and the mogul base means you can't use it just anywhere, but it was a nice addition to the collection.
