what kind of diodes are in o-like modules?

so..me being me, i just couldn't stand to have a perfectly good laser...
I've taken apart my +100mW o-like module and have gotten it down to the bare 9mm diode with driver...

what kind of power do these IR diodes push out? cause this sucker burns pretty good without any lens on it!

Could i simply remove the green crystal and have lens the lens how they are to have a nice IR burner?

Yes, you can. I think they have 500mW+ diodes in there, but they may be higher, I don't know the efficiency of those crystals but if you remove the KTP you'll get an IR burner for sure. The thing is they are not easy to collimate.

alright. I'm looking to simply set it so it burns like 4-6 inches away and ocne it's set i'll put it back in my ehgemus host.

^You're sure it's a 9mm diode and not 5.6mm? If it's a 9mm, most likely it's 500mW. You could probably get away with removing the crystals, but make sure you also remove the pump focusing lens between the crystals and the diode. You'll also need to be able to focus the lens. An easier solution would be to get a 9mm meredith module and just throw that diode and driver in there.

That is probably a 500mW CW rated pump diode, most of the cheaper modules with 9mm pumps all have that same power laser diode.

yeah it's def not a 5.6mm diode, WAY too big...

and it's gotta be of decent power, it's tears ass through anything black without any kind of lens on it.

Most likely 500mW. Maybe higher. Not likely to be >800mW. I've gotten >325mW from the smaller modules' pump diodes.
The O-like modules are pretty fun to take apart and play with.

I've found that the lenses from LPC sleds give good transmission at 808nm.
But the aspheric reader lens is pretty much useless as it is too small to collect much of the light. Experiment with some spare lenses.

aw killed it.
whoops...

wasn't paying attention when i was messing with it, and the actual diode got too close to the desk while it was burning and fried the diode....

anyone knwo of a place to get IR diodes? i'm intrigued now.
and i mean high powered, not the ones like in sleds.

Shame...
If you're interested in C-mounts, do a search for c-mount diode on e-bay. Look for the seller snoctony. He sells 2W 808nm diodes for a good price... as well as higher and lower powers at different wavelengths.
Class IV really is a lot of fun ;)

lol that was fast!

eBay should have them as RA_Pierce said. Wasn't there someone here on LPF that was selling 3W IR lasers?

yeah :(
i got distracted when it started ripping through my wooden desk....and wasn't paying attention to where i was holding it lol.....well it was fun burning the desk for that 3 seconds.

i'll have wait.....money is tight right now, and i've got to get this MXDL kit going.
