Hi VV,
It only takes a split second to solder a wire or a driver to a diode, just have to make sure of the iron temp before you attempt . If the wire or pins are tinned first and fluxed just a touch will do. To much time holding the iron in one spot is the heat issue. other than that there is no problem over heating a component..
