What is science?

Science, in theory, is knowledge derived through the scientific method. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as "pure" science when it is exposed to humanity. Science, in practice, usually involves science-in-theory, but often contains the added faults of bureaucracy, marketing, popular trends, hearsay, cliques, demagogue authority, weak or falsified data, "lies, damned lies, and statistics," and even blind faith masqueraded as "science." Beware he who would tout "science" in arguments without qualifying the statements. Truth is only true as far as you can verify it yourself.

It's a way for know what is "possible", and what is (yet) "impossible" ..... and for constantly try to turn "impossible" in "possible" :p :D

Science;

1. Killer of God, and miracles.
2. Rewrote folklore, and fables that have been cherished for centuries.
3. Tortured, and murdered countless animals, and humans in experimentation.
4. Has been exploited to generate billions, upon billions, upon billions in revenue.
5. Has been used to deplete, and pollute the mother planet.
6. Used in wars to murder humans.

Mind if I hit on these?

1. Reassurance of God, and the works of his hands. How could one "discover god" using science? That would imply the creator made himself a part of his own creation. Why would a creator do that?
2. Also, having inspired folklores and fables of kinds.
3. Healed, and birthed many more countless animals and even humans in the implementation of science.
4. Wouldn't you?
5. Science has been used to deliberately do so? How so?
6. Used in wars to protect innocent civilians.

My point: Its everywhere and changes many things.

Isn't that exciting?

Not to sound like Sagan...

The only being I have to answer to is myself. The only being that limits my actions is me (and the law of the land). For me, there is no sin and no hell. It feels great.

Post modernism doesn't relieve you from actual truth in any case.

Why do you limit yourself via "law of the land"? You only have yourself, right?

"I believe [*#)%].] is all there is"

Does your belief in [*#)%].] make the fact that [*#)%].] doesn't exist, any more untrue?

TJ - are you a religious man? It's certainly not the impression I get from you.

No. I dont follow any organized religions, but I do believe in a higher power. I feel it in my heart, and my brain.

My post wasn't entirely directed at you, just a couple of points.

I guess my bottom line point is there are negatives created from both religion, and science. You can easily find fault in either of them. Science is not the salvation of man, and neither is religion. But they both do play a part in helping mankind. If it was not for religion our country (US) would have never been founded. Obviously some people dismiss religion, and I think thats wrong. It has its place in the world, and things can be learned from it.

I like that quote. Its the best justification I've seen for an argument that might say science is more or less.. subjective to those who do it.

Science is something that mortal humans question, think, and test to observe their ideas.

I AM science.

if i am being honest, i think that this question is kind of stupid. Even though i gave an answer previously...

the meaning of science isn't to be pondered like "how big is space" or "what is time".

the meaning of science has an answer just like "2 + 2"

Sience is everywhere surrounding us. It´s there when you go to work. It´s there while you...

First an ape invented religion and god. An other ape invented sience to understand the miracles god is doing to do the same miracles and be more god-like to others.

Thanks to sience we now have to go to work to buy some bananas and are playing with lasers rahter than our cocks. Whos one is longer and brighter?

:crackup::crackup: Pretty sure most are still not playing with lasers... and if your's lights up, go see a doctor about that asap:shhh::na:

Ok, but first I will post some pics of the incredible beam ;) May the force be with you :)

Ok. no beamshots LoL :) But if it comes to sience and religion. Both of the apes just wanted to have more power to control the others. Is it the priest who says the others what they are allowed to do else his friend God will punish them or is it the sientist who says I have almost the same power because I figured out how his friend God is doing it and am able to punish you myself if you don´t follow my rules.

^^When did that happen? Who were those people? Apes aren't aware like we are..

Religion vs Science... if you refer to the start of the thread, that's exactly why I said it's a big can of worms. Always boils down to this debate... everytime...:undecided:

Agree. Until once side can 'outprove' the other, then this conflict will always exist. It should be noted that religion is slowly being undermined and eroded by verifiable, clear and exact claims that science makes. This is gonna be interesting.

Edit : 100posts!!!
