I would love to see others opinions about existence

Personally I feel that reality is subjective. We can only know what we experience and even then we cannot know that what we experience is "true" reality or just our interpretation of it...how ever wrong or accurate.

Yes my stance leaves a lot to the unkown but frankly I feel I know very little.

Wow, this is way too intellectual for my Saturday night ;) First Ray J Neal tries to figure out what "time" is, now you want an answer as to the nature of our entire reality? Eleven scotches into the evening is no time for philosophical debate.

I'm just teasing of course.

I don't think reality is a defined constant. I don't think reality is capable of definition. I think reality is a strange word, in the sense that we all really use it to denote "something" that should be seen as a universal constant. The problem is, there is no constant between people.

"Reality" means "this is something that we should all see as a static baseline". The problem is, no such "static baseline" actually exists in the real world. In reality, there is no reality.

Blame eleven scotches for that response.

Yes I think it is subjective, we as humans have a very narrow range of perception that our senses afford. Just the visual range in our eyes ( as you all know! ) is a tiny sliver of the total light wave range. I think we may be missing out on much that we just can't see!
 
I picture this wasp nest (yellow jackets; ANNOYING LITTLE MONSTERS!); on the bottom of a landing in the stairwell in front of my apartment. It's that time of year. Back in 2003 or so, I even found a small, 1.5 to 2 inch yellow jacket nest in the doorframe of the passenger door in my car... just sitting, there, GROWING.

So this deceptively simple community of wasps works every day, making the nest larger, creating new baby wasps, threatening everyone who approaches, and occasionally attacking people.

In their own scaled-down way, maybe they attempt to define reality. Or, probably, creatures like this operate more in a "hive-mind" mode more than we do; something we can't understand... individuals are not important.

And then I press the nozzle on the can of insecticide spray.

It's a crap load of Atoms organizing in a cohesive matrix to perceive other Atoms and collections of Atoms.

This video explained my thoughts in the 'what is Time' thread. We are all part of the whole, thus we change what is.

Science in it's true basis is a belief system.

... Thus one 'could' surmise that reality is a creation of our own preception of our own creation.

Great video! Nice and easy for non-sciency types like myself. :beer:


PS. I could be wrong about everything that I wrote here!

Reality is what our senses perceive it to be. Everything we do is based on our minds ability to formulate. The mind can easily be misinformed, and altered. So everyone's reality is unique. On the flip side, we will always ponder what true reality is because the mind is not absolute.

I will assert that one can instantly know some piece of reality without the physical experience of it. One does not need a pre-conceived reality based on experience alone, to know anything at all.

Before Helen Keller, being blind and deaf, knew any words or had any concept of language, she knew she was not alone. She knew God was with her.

Must have been kind of akward to know your with the dude responsible for all of your crippling physical problems.
