I've read that you can bend up the metal rim around the window with some fine nose pliers and the window should fall out. Otherwise buy the tools.^^^^ we all know what Bob vila says about having the right tool for the job....

On the Cannon site, they say to use their cleaning kit, but it also says you can just use a microfiber cloth with no cleaner as though you get the same results :/ I feel you might have to break the window/decan. Canon USA Consumer Products - EF Lenses 101 - Lens Care

if you can do the Same thing with a microfiber, I don't see why someone would by it. Lol
I won't until I tried absolutely everything. PAM or sulfuric acid if I need to.

Did you read that link I posted, they really say that :P I thought the same thing...

Back up and take a picture where the output is vertical@8-10 feet.

too late. fixed it.
first i used the left, even though i didnt think it was going to work, then the right, then the nifty tool on the bottom ;)
Worked like a charm! though i have no idea where the glass is now....banged it out a few times, cant find it anywhere...

You need to find the window or pieces of glass back. If they are left in the diode they will wreck havoc on the tiny wires.

I thought you tapped the window out and that was that. Did you go digging around in there afterwards?

I am far from a happy person.

After cleaning the diode window did you make sure to dry it or did you fire it up possibly with the window still wet with the cleaner? Look like it was still wet when started back up and it made a mist that is on the diode window and lens.

3M clear tape would prob be good to use over the window, before it is broken...

no way im digging around in there now.I was lucky enough i popped the lens w/o any problem. digging around is just asking for trouble.

I tried letting it dry the best i can. 25 mins after that picture and under a light it still looked the same.
