What happened to my green dot?

Just changed a battery in a 100mw green. I turned it on and the dot looked a little weird. Kind of oblong.
I then shined it farther away and I have two dots.
Beam still looks the same.
Pic is at about 50 feet. It is noticable at a few feet but spreads out at distance.

You didn't drop it or slam it some way. It looks like either the crystal set moved or cracked.

Could be TEM 01?

This is common, don't worry about it. It can be caused by many things.

I have had green lasers do that, I think the term is "mode-hopping"? Anyway, sometimes they go back and forth between TEM01 and TEM00, but since I use my green laser for star gazing and thats basically it, it doesn't bug me much at all.

Actually I think it is annoying. I can see two dots in as little as 10 feet.
I don't want two dots.
I see the parts box getting getting a new addition.

This is inherent of higher powered green lasers, unless you go and buy something of lab quality you're always at a risk of it mode hopping. That's just how they work.

It can be fixed if you think you can adjust the alignment yourself.
It's really not that difficult but does require some patience.

You can probably fix it, yes, but don't be surprised to find you can't. Can be caused by imperfections in the crystal and things like temperature too. IMO I'd just leave it as it is and deal with it. Realigning green lasers is a pain and you probably wouldn't improve it much at all.

Just metered it. It used to read 85-100. Now getting 38.
Also tried different batteries.
Had it for about six months. I believe it is a laserland module.
I don't think it has been run for over an hour total since I got it.
