It's very interesting. Sometimes I would get very confused as to why, say, my girlfriend would spend $200 on a bikini. That is however, until I realized they are just as confused as to why I'd spend $400 on an inefficient flashlight. Once, right before I was about to drop a bunch of money on my 593.2nm 2-9mW GLP, my aunt said to me, "so what are you buying again? That yellow light?". It was just they way she called it a light, made me question my entire hobby. For about five seconds, and then I bought it anyway.
Yeah its hard to justify to people, however most guys dont need justification XD as for laserchick i think its awesome that we have a girl here (though there cant only be one right?)

Very true gozert, often expensive clothing and apparel is marked up because they can, so that people can use it as a social status thingy when they wear it. Usually lasers feel pretty good on their pricing. To us, at least ;)
It's also interesting because the reading voice in my head has no gender, no age, no anything. It's just the words get translated into the raw feelings that they convey, nothing else. So I'd have no idea wether someone like laserchick is really a woman, or if someone like pman is really a man. It's not even my own voice reading, it's very hard to explain.

You do bring up an interesting idea. I am completely confident that Pman is really a man, he did after all post a photo of himself. See this page:

Start with post #1174 and if you scroll down and look at noobphaser215 and VanillaGorilla you might wonder if the three are related, there is no doubt all three are men. Laser chick we know nothing about, she won't even tell us her location, so she certainly wouldn't share a photo, but her and the other women that have been here could possibly be transgender/trans***ual, that may explain why they think like us.

Oh yeah, I've seen you and pman and whoever in the post a photo of yourself. Was just saying that had there not been any photos, I'd have no idea what anybody is like. Just faceless entities.

Oh that is easy. You light a match, Its fun, and safer than having the match so close to your finger. And you can set a fire in a emergency. You can, blind a evil burglar. And your can cut rubber, pop balloons and cut electrical tape and more.

I stopped reading because I had to reply when I saw what you said, others may have already said this but pay attention.
DO NOT BLIND ANYONE ! EVER ! Not even an " evil burglar " with your laser.
It is a war crime.
It's like keeping a water pistol full of battery acid for home defense, the judge will eat you alive.
It's one thing to make use of what's at hand in an emergency, but to deliberately make ready cruel and unusual means will land you in big trouble.
Knowing that the Utah Data Center records everything you have just made a case against yourself so buy a gun or a better yet a bright flashlight and some pepper spray.

I kind of agree that losing valuables isnt worth it if the robber isnt being violent, but lets say he had a knife and was accross the room... would it be okay then?

Assuming you have anything over 100mW with an adjustable focus, I'd unfocus and blind him to minimize the damage done. That is, if he were to threaten me and I had the time to grab a laser, unfocus it and turn it on. In a more realistic situation, I'd get the first thing I could smash his head with and bash him with it.

Yea, I never really believe anyone that claims they are a girl online. Especially on sites where most if not all of the members are guys. I just go by the assumption that they are some jerk trying to get attention by pretending to be someone else. Until I have proof that is.

So funny, and probably true. I was laying here with a sore back feeling sorry for myself. Read this almost spit my coffee out.
( I'm fine actually, hired a personal trainer, he's kicking my butt)
Bad motorcycle accident a year ago, trying to get my strength back)
New hip, works great, bought new bike with her insurance money. Love it.

Funny the gender thing comes up. Someone thought I was a "She" in my sale thread. I mentioned I was getting married soon and tried to raise money for the trip.
I wouldn't have to use the lasers to blind a burglar. When my dogs are done with him, I'll break him in half and let the police haul him away.

Ok I am not sure if this is a good idea or not, some things once you see them you can't unsee them, they will stay with you forever. We could make a new post a picture of yourself thread where everyone that posts a photo has to post a nude photo of themselves, that way we know, although I am not sure if we can post nude photos here or not, maybe if the thread is labeled NSFW.

Across the room? Poised to throw the knife at you or just holding it in their hand?
A lot depends on your state laws.

Bright flash light and pepper spray if you chose non lethal, if your life is in danger and you live in a state like mine that has castle doctrine and stand your ground laws you can defend your home with deadly force if you are in fear for your life.

If you live in California or one of the socialist police states then gently throw your wallet at the burglar from the fetal position while whimpering in the corner, but don't throw your wallet too hard or you could get charged and/or sued.

If you are crazy enough to even consider a dazzler for self defense then know your state laws and be prepared to spend lots of time and money in court.

p.s. Pepper spray works 99% of the time, it really sucks to get a face full of that stuff. Can't even see it coming with a bright flashlight in your face.
Real tasers work most of the time, but those million volt toys they sell on flebay and at gun shows will only piss someone off, we used to zap each other for fun with em. If you get a really good one you just might get your attackers adrenaline flowing before he crams it up your backside.
