Most of the established companies will not be interested in doing group buys, since their prices are already fairly low - any lower, and they could possibly lose money, which is bad for them
I am out of the group buy scene after all of these diodes sell for a while - takes up an ENORMOUS amount of time and resources, and minimal return, other than happy, happy, forum members !

Nope. If you're looking for 125mW greens, good luck. CNI doesn't sell 125mW greens. That's why you hear me bitching about Dragonlasers (scammers) all the time. The most you can get from them are 80mW lasers and then you have to keep in mind the costs of: shipping, bank fees, RMA costs, testing each laser (IE, have the right type of equipment), and if you're in the US, the possibility of you losing everything to customs.
I actually don't know of a single place that can consistently offer quality, >125mW 60sec average pen-size greens.
(BTW, if anyone is looking for a >120mW greenie I have one last greenie left from my last order [shameless self promotion
])
PS: I'm not saying there aren't >125mW 60sec CNIs, but I'm saying you cannot order them. They are exceptions that you can only get a hold of in larger batches, and they are quite rare exceptions, despite what DLs sales record may indicate.

Oh, and sorry to be a downer again (those are pretty much the only posts I've been making it seems :-/), but unless you're looking to do a GB for a few million diodes, I'll bet Nichia won't even give you the time of day. If they do though, count me in!

I was serious....and besides I asked about a group buy for @125 Mw greenies!

a 105 Nova would pump me up BIG TIME!!!
I have to admit...I wanted to get a good buy on a nice greenie..but I was also very willing to work for this...
I just don't have the contacts to even begin to know how to pull a group buy together for this item...
From what has already been said..there really isn't much margin for a vendor to offer a GB discount..so I guess this idea was dead from conception.
Sorry I even brought the issue up.....
I just saw so much momentum on the diode group buy ever since the posting at Instructables, that I thought that MAYBE we could get enough people to comit to a Nice greenie buy!
Well..anyway..have a nice chuckle at "The New Guy's" expense.....

Larry - nobody is chuckling - and we ARE taking you seriously ! If there is a way to do a GB for this stuff, I am certain you can find a way - send me an email, we will talk about the logistics, benefits, and pitfalls of doing GB's.

Hey..really..I'm not offended..
I kinda "Knew" in the back of my mind that there MUST be a reason this hasn't come up before....
What you had originally said about margins and vendors for these things made perfect sense to me...
I know that there are a tight group of people here that have been here since the beginning....and to be honest I am humbled by all the knowedge you have...
I just thought that the posting at instructables was a Coup De' Gras...I mean with one posting you have set the world on fire!!!
I know that Make magazine (I am a subscriber..and now officially an Uber Geek In the eyes of my lovely Bride.) ran an article that made a similar DVD burning laser pointer....
But it was Kipay's (SP) posting on instructables that made the largest impression!
I really believe that if not now..SOON..there will be "Money willing to be spent" on a nice High Power Greenie from all those that get hooked on lasers from that Instructable.
I also think that we could be at a crossroads with this hobby.....a small "Window" if you will.
It isn't going to take much for high power ..GOOD QUALITY Pointers to become EXTINCT...
We all know why...and it only takes one or two BUFOONS to ruin this entire hobby for everyone!
Anyway...No hard feelings whatsoever.....

Hey Larry, you've got a good idea there, and I found a link that might be of some use to you. Granted, the lasers are probably bad IR leakers, cuz they seem to be the same ones DX orders, but there's the possibility that ordering them as a group buy might save everyone some money... (not sure what customs would think of 100 laser units being shipped in a single parcel though...). Anyway, here's the link. I really haven't checked into it at all, so please forgive me if it turns out to be a really bad thing, and I've made a huge error, I'm only suggesting this as a way to help, and a possible way for forum members to acquire cheaper high powered green lasers.

that's for the green lasers, but they also have reds that they say can be bought at 100 mW. I'd probably be in a group buy for either a 100 mW red, or a 200 mW green.
