Well, I got my Alpha105.

Hey guys, I finally received my Alpha105 green laser, and man is it a beautiful laser. Everything seems good.. Well.. There is a problem.. I can't seem to light a match with it.. It won't sting my skin at all either. I've tried from a load of different distances and nothing. I held it there for 15 seconds and it started t smoke a little, but would not light.. I am using new Duracell AA alkaline batteries. Is that the problem? Do I need lithium batteries? Is the laser just a bad one? Should I exchange it? I was only able to try that pair of batteries I only had two left, but ill go out and buy more tonight. Are regular Alkaline AA batteries ok? Or does it require lithium to be powerful enough to burn?

Try lithiums and if it still won't burn dark colored objects then complain to nova about it.

yea make sure you have new batteries its pretty rare nova sends out defective units but anything is possible what does the[highlight]spec[/highlight] sheet say

my x100 will fry your finger tip fast it averages over 120mw  

oh yea try a red or colored black match

You'd be surprised, but somehow it is possible to do it wrong...

Check batteries. Lithiums and NiMH are best.
Try it at about 6 inches (lighting it too close will damage your laser).
Let it warm up for a few seconds then turn it off and turn it back on.
Make sure your matches are red or dark colored.

Out of the box, my X105 lit a match at 6 inches nearly instantly.

Thanks for your help guys, after playing with the laser for a while it seems to burn well now, I guess it just needed to do a little warming up.

Btw. For those who are curious the spec sheet..

a good set of battery's and a nice warm up does wonders ;D

Did you measure that or is that what it came with?

My new 120mW EnVee stings like a bee and lights matches instantly. I can't wait for my LPM.

Nova tests every laser before it ships it out, and thats what they marked down on the box. Today, it seems even more powerful, lighting matches very very fast, and stings like a bitch. lol burns the hair right off your skin.

With all DPSS lasers always let them warm up for 5-15 minutes. They don't output full stable power until after the warmup time has passed..
