Not essential, but quite interesting to know.
Scientists found out violet Light around 450nm is very efectiv to kill mildews. Can be useful at the Food sector.

Some sources and background information would be nice too.

What scientists say that and who was he working for ?
If it's true I wish I known that befor I started pumping bleach all over the bathroom
is 450nm violet I thought that was blue ????

I am sorry for that dry info. I seen it on a Science TV Show at Swiss TV. The where talking about violet Light, not sure if it was ultraviolet. I will try to get more information about that.

Flamingpyro, you are actually right 450 nm is Blue but they where talking about this wavelenght and violet. I try to clear that up.

It seems plausible enough, but true evidence is preferred :)

High intesity light at 445 or 405 nm would hurt many microorganisms, but the problem would be finding an exposure level that is not dangerous to human skin and tisssue. Otherwise the solution would be like setting somone diseased on fire: effecive against the pathogen, but not very friendly towards its host.

Hoods for plating cultures in labs micro labs us UV lamps to decontaminate when not in use. UV is very effective at killing microbes.
