Ha, that generalization is way off, I've been subject to racism several times as a white man in this country.
It's not the same thing, and I've experienced it too. White people are the minority here and the First Nations people tend to show a certain animosity towards white people, but I can understand why. It's the same way a lot of Scottish people feel about the English but their hardships are much more recent.
People here generally expect that white people are here to make money and nothing else, which is often the case. Getting involved and being a part of the community changes that. Many white people have trouble with the homeless population here, I generally don't because I treat them as people, I can have a laugh with them and try to be kind. Once they realize you're not juts another white guy here to make money and you show some human decency they're mostly willing to accept you into their community. No more racism or animosity. Ok, well a little racism, but in a humorous way! Goes both ways at that point.
Have you been followed around a store by security for no other reason than the colour of your skin? I know plenty of First Nations people that have, and it's not as though they're bums or drunks. They're hard working people with good families.
I don't agree with the whole "you can't be racist to white people" thing, but to dismiss the struggles various other ethnicities face because you've also experienced racism is silly. It's just not the same. At least not in western countries.
I've had plenty of aboriginal people give me shit just for being white but I can understand why they feel that way and I know it's nothing compared to what they deal with on a day to day basis.
I do agree with Trump when it comes to illegal immigration though. Either follow the process or face the consequences. I had to go through the system to be granted to privilege to live and work here. So should everyone else.
Paul, Trump isn't completely to blame for all the race baiting/identity politics crap. The MSN push that as well because it gets views/clicks. They feed off of it. They should share much of the blame. Half the stuff Trump says/does is deliberately intended to cause controversy and keep him in the news. The crazies on the left do it too, because they have some false sense of virtue and feel the need to get offended on other people's behalf. There's a lot of people on the left that are just getting too extreme in their beliefs and it's both pushing more moderate left-wingers away whilst also strengthening the right.
I say all of this as someone that's left wing. I can see both sides of the argument but feel that people on both sides are getting pulled too far into the extremes. Some decency and understanding would go a long way. Both sides have valid concerns. Play devil's advocate sometime, it's good to understand the other side's point of view and why they feel the way they do.
And with that, a YT video. Good song that I've been feeling recently.
