Making the mirrors for the "Giant Magellan Telescope"

This may have been shown before, but I thought it was very interesting.
Everything about this is extreme, it's large, heavy, complex, and it takes ~1 year to grind the back side of the mirror, and ~18 months just to polish the surface.

California shows us a startling glimpse of what socialism will look like.

That's such an awesome video, AD, you are a man of many talents! :yh:
Thank you for sharing!

A good friend of mine (Mark Bolt) was really into Hang Gliding and competitions, and flew all over the world, unfortunately he died of cancer a few years ago; I sure do miss his flying stories.

This is a video of him flying at Wallaby Ranch back in 2013.

The man is a Legend!
:( Sad to hear he's gone, but I'm sure he will now fly with great smile on his face with eternal wings!!

Very nice video, Tero. Must feel good to get away from the deep freeze you call home to hang glide in more hospitable terrain. You are a man of many talents.

When I was younger I worked at a food pantry. I’d see the same people come in, over and over. Mostly at the end of the month, when they had spent their checks. They’d have their hands out till they get another check. Sad thing is 90% of them were happy living like that. 10% weren’t those I felt compassion for. The rest, not so much. Every ones to blame for their life except them. Welcome to the “fundamental transformation of America”

Enjoy! :(

You act like poverty in America is a new thing. And that people who are poor have only themselves to blame for their lot in life. Sounds very much like someone who judges others by their own circumstances. That is known as lack of empathy. Enjoy! :(

No Paul, I have a lot of empathy and compassion, the problem is everyone has known for years that California is a welfare state and poor people have moved there while the middle class has moved out, now there's a lot of rich and poor because of what it costs to live there is high.

This is socialism, the government takes from those who have and gives to those who need and the middle thins out.

Why don't you see throngs of homeless in the country, because someone will help someone else without government instruction, people help one another, someone will help a homeless person, often through the community church someone will take them in, get them on their feet. KEY WORDS THERE Paul, GET THEM ON THEIR FEET.

Some people are broken and cant stand alone, I understand that, but where there is a free living people often don't aspire for anything more, and those who do want a job can't afford it, they would lose their free housing, so the load gets heavier for the workers under socialism until those in the lower middle class run away while they have anything left.

The cost of renting a uhaul leaving California is 300% what it costs to go there because they have to hire drivers to take the trucks back, that many people are leaving.

First of all, Red, I wasn't addressing you. I was addressing Bob's remarks that people who rely on donated food to make it through the month don't deserve his compassion. I live in a state run by Democrats, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. BTW, I don't need to take food donations to make it through the month, so don't go there. I have a grown daughter that also lives here and she hands out money to people who ask her on the street. I do, as well. I couldn't be more proud of my daughter and her keen sense of social consciousness. I will give a drunk money to get the next drink. Why? Because he could die if he doesn't get it. Just because people find themselves in a bad way, I don't believe they must be stuck there forever and don't deserve our compassion. Many people have pulled themselves out of a bad situation with the help of others. My 2 cents.

Did you even read what wrote?

I’m really wondering about your I.Q. Paul, if you pulled that I don’t have compassion on people that don’t enyoy living off of other people.

You really are a piece of work.

You are a piece yourself, Bob. Of what, I won't say. If you had spent more time in elementary school learning grammar and sytnax, one wouldn't need to try to pull your meaning out of the nonsense that comes out of your pie hole.

Have a good life Paul.
