Video review: 500mW 532nm and 600mW 635nm Lasers from XPL!

Was just searching more about beam modes and I found on a thread saying that higher the mode the more powerful the laser, not sure how entirely true that is but I suppose it's a step in the right direction, and would make sense considering the laser you got, Sta.

I believe that's in reference to multimode diodes. Usually with DPSS, exotic modes mean the laser is less efficient.

Thanks for the clarification on the IR, that makes a lot more sense now so yeah good that it has an IR filter because 2.5W of IR sounds pretty scary. Also, is there any danger to running a laser hot or putting it in the freezer for a while just to see how it's output changes?

I haven't had any problems with freezers. The worst that could happen, if you don't leave it in the freezer all day, is that you might fog up your lens. Running it hot is another story and you should avoid going beyond the rated duty cycle of your laser, unless you're willing to risk frying it.

Don't put it in a freezer. Condensation can ruin it.

Yeah I was worried about condensation. I guess if you put it in a plastic bag and squeeze out all the air you should be alright though right?

I'm still waiting on a measurement too - some shady action going on with the batteries too,,, I wouldn't think a class IV 532nm would take one 18650. If it's a legitimate 500mW output DPSS there's probably around a 2W pump diode, and nothing I know above ~700mW takes only one li-ion at 3.7v. I wonder if they're over-driving one of those cheap mass produced modules, that would explain the low price, one battery, and brighter output. Generally most class IV handheld laser drivers need a 7.4v input (two li-ions), I don't see how a 500mW DPSS could pass with only 3.7v. Don't quote me on any of this, maybe I'm wrong, but seems a bit fishy to me. Hell of a deal if it's real.

My Jetlasers PLE 532 800mW takes a single 18650, as does my CNI PGL 800mW 532

Great video Sta. rep

Awesome to hear that it has an IR filter, sounds like a legit 500mW but please let us know when you measure it for real. Also, why does everybody complain about IR so much? I mean i know it's invisible but doesn't it at least add some burning power?

It isn't going to be true 500mW of 532nm output for $100, it simply isn't unfortunately. A good rule of thumb for 532nm lasers is around ($0.50-$1.00/mW). Though that is just a general rule and many 532nm lasers bought from reputable sellers come in over-spec.

Judging by the price I would bet around 200mW. Possibly even 300mW if you're lucky :yh:

Sure appears brighter than 200mW in the video. But yeah the cheapest decent 500mW 532 I know of is O-likes Crown at $239 or the 400mW for $180
But that beam looks a lot brighter than 200mW to me. Would love to get that baby on my LPM and know.

Unless its some of their old stock, apparently prices for high quality DPSS crystals has gone up as demand keeps dropping since the majority of the market is 520nm or just cheap ~1-100mW eBay type modules, but yeah most likely isnt full 500mW although i'd expect it to be more than 200mW

Hap, it's definitely far more than 200mW. It beats the pants off of my SciFi 200mW 520. But I will probably be getting an LPM in the next few days/weeks.

Awesome!

We'll see what it's output is! Honestly though $100 for 200mW+ ain't bad :yh:

I just received supposed power checks from XPL in the form of pics of the meter while measuring the laser. The red is measuring 648mW and the green measures 658! Now I know it's totally possible that he is shining a more powerful laser into the meter and saying it's mine, but the pictures he sent me are certainly not the same ones that are on the AliExpress page, that was the first thing I checked so if it is a rip-off at least the guy is being smart about it which is more than I can say for *cough cough* a former popular member of this group. I will be sure to review them as well once they arrive. Again thank you so much Sta for spreading the information, I wouldn't have known about these if it weren't for you.

I am sceptacle myself until it is actually measured. The O-like 500mW crown upgrade I posted has been tested by at least a few of us who own them. It seems very hard to believe they could be that cheap. Of course it is possible but I call all claims from all sellers suspect until tested.
It's not easy to compare brightness from one wavelength to the next especially with the difference that divergence brings.
If it is or isn't really a class 4 at least it sounds like you like it and that's what matters personally. When the 520nm diodes became available they were the big craze but now that they are pretty common it's good to see members getting interested in the 532nm again. There's something extra special about that thin bright sparkly beam.

You're right, I have a 520 and I will probably sell it on here as soon as I get my 532 from XPL. It does seem like way too cheap for that power but the guy's been good about communicating and I told him I would personally meter the lasers just in case he was thinking about short changing me. I don't personally own an LPM but I know Sta has one coming so they will be measured regardless and if they are a scam then we can all know and make sure to review him as such. I've personally got high hopes for these babies though!
