Heh. Get a $2 LED flashlight, and put it in a ziplock bag with 4 or 5 AAA's and keep it somewhere easy to find and get.. but not see (so the batteries don't get stolen to use in remotes..) for emergencies.

Put a piece of 'scotch tape' over the aperture, should give the
desired effect.

Used this in the last big blackout with a 5mW leadlight, worked like
a charm and simple. For the best result use the 3M type which has
a foggy texture :beer:

I have just put a finger over the end to diffuse the light, (reflected on my finger), but w/ a LED shop 50 mW it sometimes actually burns the finger a bit. :can: LOL! -GH

If you want a decent color quality just use a lower powered 50 or 100mw 405 on a yellow highlighter cap. It'll give off light like a led that peaks in the 560s range so it's very bright per mw.
