Only $19.99 at Cajunlasers Store ?? That's highway robbery even without the generous discount for forum members!

Not to mention that Clif at Cajun Lasers always delivers with lightening (or should I say laser-) fast speed and freely provides a wealth of technical support, often greater in value than the products I purchase. On top of that, the packaging is first rate -- not only are the parts are always securely padded and sealed to avoid damage during transportation, they come in these translucent purple baggies sealed with the official Cajun Lasers logo, which makes you feel a bit like you're buying futuristic technological drugs of some sort ;)

Furthermore, Cliff lets me know when there's a better deal from another seller, such as when he directed me to buy some batteries from Survival Lasers in Texas or a dirt cheap round driver from Deal Xtreme in China. He's a bit like the "Santa Claus" character in "Miracle on 34th Street". So when Clif endorses a product like these BlitzBuck v3 drivers I know it's time to buy.

I can't wait for these to be available. I have some 9mm reds from eBay waiting for the appropriate drivers and this sound like it will do the job. I'm always a satisfied customer when I shop at Cajun Lasers!

urgent help needed please!

how so I set the blitzbuck V3 to low current mode?
I see there are two resistors markd as 'jumper for HI'
does this mean i need to short these out, or remove them to set LO mode?

also, in high mode, measuring the output with a DMM, the adjustment pot has no effect output - its always 2.9A
I need to get these set 1.2A.

shouldn't these things ship set at minimum current?
and the picture should have PSU connections marked
not that I couldn't figure it out, but generally:
no documentation = dead component.

They should have come in low mode. It's odd that it is stuck at 2.9A. Take some pictures and send them to me over PM and I can help you troubleshoot. Otherwise, send it back to Clif at CajunLasers and he will send you a replacement ^_^

(Also - I'm working on documentation for the next version :D)

problem one fixed: PSU+ connected to central pad on back instead of D+

problem two: output is still 3A, (supply delivers only 1.5A), pot still has no effect.
the resistor calculation earlier in the thread has two calculations for HI and LO mode, but I'm still at a loss on how to set LO mode. what should the jumper resistor values be for LO mode?

You could have blown up the driver. Drivers are electronic devices and very sensitive to overload, short circuit etc.

Indeed >.> If you connected the PSU input to the output of the driver, I'm almost certain it's blown... the op-amp for current control is doing nothing anymore, which would imply 3A output (because you reversed current on it :P ).

However, there should be NO jumper for low mode.

Since this thread got bumped I may's well ask my question now instead of later. I need to replace driver in my C6 445 build and this driver seems to be one of the only ones that'd be suitable. I'm a bit confused about the different modes. It says low mode, which is what I'd use, can output 1.2 to 1.8A. Do I have to somehow set the current (like on the flex drives)? The M series 445 diodes can handle any current in that range but I'd rather not damage the diode or driver by doing something stupid.

Yeah. There is a potentiometer that you turn in order to set the current between 1.2 to 1.8A. It's already set in low mode for all of the drivers, so you just turn the pot to whatever current you want.

I was getting ready to test one of these drivers when I notice some discrepancy with the soldering. any recommendations?

The one on the left seems fine. The jumper between the pot and the resistor is perfectly natural because there is actually a jumper there underneath. Usually I would have fixed imperfections like that, but because that one is simply aesthetic (i.e. there is a connection there anyway), I decided not to fix that one.

However, the one on the right has a huuuuuuuuuuuge problem. Those two pins should definitely NOT be jumpered. That was the problem I kept running into when I was first testing these - it will result in an immediately killed driver, if I remember correctly. It releases the magic smoke that makes them run ;)

That said, if you have the soldering ability, use some solder wick and just remove that jumper between the two pins. Everything else looks normal.

The soldering jobs on the next batches should be significantly better than these. Allowing for more room and I am probably going to have some stencils made for more precise soldering, and if I can, I may even just get these outsourced to a PCB assembly company somewhere in the US for better accuracy.

However, they should still work properly :D

Ah thanks for the reply. I've looked at the pic on Clif's site probably a half dozen times and I didn't even notice the pot until I saw it in the larger pic landy posted. I guess I was looking for a different style of pot. Now that I think about it the fact you've mentioned replacing the pot with a fix resistor elsewhere in this thread should have been a clue. :o


Now I just need to track down (somewhere other than o-like) some of these little heatsinks for 12mm modules that you can mount to a baseplate I can finally place my order for some drivers and diodes for my next project.

problem solved, thanks everyone:
measure current with the LOAD ATTACHED!
otherwise one is measuring the short circuit current.
I took the laser off and measured without because I thought it was in high current mode so would blow my laser before I could adjust it.
Even the one I had wired up incorrectly works fine.

My apologies to Wolfman, to whom I was not terribly polite.
I'm only incompetent and grouchy when I haven't slept for 72 in order to meet an important deadline. (which I missed)

Don't worry mate - apology accepted. Of course you have to always measure current with the load attached, you derp! :D

Also, these seem to be significantly more robust than even I thought o.o Short circuit protection, reverse current protection... I am impressed!
