Yeah. Lemme tell ya, long fingernails were very helpful when picking away the light rubber from the resistor and wires.
 
Sorry for the double post, but i ordered the power supply today, an MG 05-LPM-830-065. here's a picture:

I hope this will work ok for what i need. It's output is 1.6-2.0 KVDC @6.5mA and my tube's data sheet recommends 1790VDC ± 100VDC @ 6.5mA
so i'm in the sweet spot there for voltage and i'm dead on for current. I'm still in need of a male alden connector :( but the power supply is
scheduled to arrive on tuesday, 10/29/13.

That should work fine. My p177 runs on about 2K with a 75K ballast and is a sister tube to what you have.
 
anyone know the type of connector (not the alden one) that is on this unit? i want to put together a PCB with a switch for on/off and TTL on/off. i suppose if I need to ill just put a different connector on.

like 30+shipping it was a steal :) but i paid friggen 27.95 for a single male Alden cable... haha

Ouch. But still reasonable... I think that's about what I paid for mine a while back pre wired.
 
yeah it was 18 before shipping i believe. i got it from Merideth Instruments
 
Yeah I was rewiring old tubes a while back and I think they were 15 each at the time. Expensive lil buggers.

Why on Earth would you need an HR and OC for 400-700nm??

The only lines for HeNe are 543.5 - 652.5 (not considering IR).

On top of that, you need a different gas fill for 543.5, so from one tube, you're looking at 594.1 - 652.5nm. There is no need for anything beyond 543.5.

Also, may be possible for you to test them without the male connectors.

Solder a pin of some sort on the ends of the wires, like a paperclip or something. Or just wrap the wire around the clip, and stick them into the female alden. Just don't be rough with it. Also, make sure you don't create a short, and electrical tape/heatshrink your connections. Don't need to short out the PSU!

One thing to note, see the dark stripes down the bore of the tube? Those HeNes have seen quite a lot of use.

Yeah... i recently discovered my mirrors are >632.8nm so i would need something for just less than that. I thought it would be cool to have a 400-700nm HR and OC laying around but that is obviously not gonna happen...

also, i didn't want to have to use the paperclip and such to connect the tube to the PSU, It was worth it to me to have a solid connection.

One thing to note, see the dark stripes down the bore of the tube? Those HeNes have seen quite a lot of use.

not something i wanted to hear... ignorance is bliss :)

The paperclip wouldn't be permanent, but it would at least allow you to test the tubes.
 
if only i had something to test them with (i don't have the PSU yet, its in the mail)... besides, you never know when you'll need a male alden connector with a ballast resistor and clips on it :)
