Tutorial - My 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Laser!

Are you sure it is the ground? Because if the heatsink is solid, then the host body is pressed against the thin washer, which will give you ground. (as long as the washer is sandwiched between the spring side of the board and the body)

You may be having a battery pack problem if you haven't checked that already. (the plastic tabs need to be cut off - see picture at the top of the thread)

Well I fixed it, all I did was just put a bit of solder between the circuit board (the one that had the 9 LED's on it) and the host, then i put the washer over that. Now it works perfectly! :D Thanks again for tutorial Jay!

The set screw (which is for the module), is in the side of the heatsink. It is very unlikely that it fell out. I put the set screws in place immediately after threading. If it some how got lost, I can send you another one...

Well, I cannot find it... It was not in the plastic bag or the envelope. :( Would I have to pay for shipping? How much do the screws cost to make? This wont really set me back at all, the host will take a while to get here, so as long as it ships within two weeks, it should be fine.

Have you looked "down inside" the hole?

If you have, I apologize, but sometimes the screw is NOT visible at the surface.  The screw is much shorter than the depth of the hole. If you cannot see light shining through the hole from inside, the screw is in there.

This would cost you a few cents at the hardware store.  It will cost 50 cents to "ship."

It's a 3mm X 5 set screw. If after Dave's suggestion, you still need the set screw, just PM me your shipping address and I can send you one...

Another question. :) I got the host yesterday, and cannot find out how to take it apart more then just unscrewing it. I can't take out the ring that's blocking the circuit board from falling out. I tried prying it out, but couldn't get it out, and bent it up alot. Now one or two of the led's don't work because of the bad connection. :( So how do I take it out without damaging it?
 
try getting it to unscrew. use two small flat tips and turn the little lock washer thing and then maybe some prying.

dont worry to much about bending it because once its out you can flatten it back out.

but it is tuff sometimes. i actually have some of the same hosts i bought from a store and it has an aluminum screw in washer thing.
 
Yeah.... after you get one spot bent up enough, get a hold of it with some needle nose pliers and keep bending it up until it comes out. Then, like sk8 said, you will flatten it back out.

I found that a heavy duty pair of scissors works very well for trimming the edges...

It worked.  :D Kind of funny though, I went downstairs into my shop, and it came out within 3 seconds. :o I'll be building it today then.
EDIT: The little plastic piece that you "flip around" was pressure fitted for me, so the edge cracked when I cut the last thing out. I just taped it. ;D
 
What importance does the heat shrink tubing serve? It's really expensive, like $4 for three little pieces...
 
shrink wrap is great its a snug fit onto the pins and protects from any shorts.

electrical tape can and will melt under a lot of heat and lose its stickiness and can fall off then allow care wires to be shown.

shrink wrap will just get tighter when it heats up
