Tutorial - My 'Pocket Pal' Blu-ray Laser!

I recommend the use of stranded wire (24 AWG) to limit stress on diode leads and other connections. BIG solid wire isn't needed for this low current.

Did you have to cut the plastic silver spacer in the black host inorder to make room for the diode and heatsink? I cant get the heatsink and diode in with out shaving some of the plastic on it off. I also had to file the negative contact ring. Maybe my heatsink is to long. Its just big enough to cover the diode in the front half of the axiz head. Im not using the back half of the axiz module.

In the first post of this tutorial thread, there are some good detail in the pictures. Look at the 3rd and 4th pictures to see the the plastic piece has the center cut out.

Also, notice how the wires at the pins (wires, not pins), are bent over to make more room...

So you didnt have to file anything? I cut the middle part out of the spacer but i still cant fit everthing completly in the head of the flashlight. it goes in but the flashlight head wont screw completly on.

You can try it without the o-ring. I have always used the o-ring...

But you may not need it.

Also, make sure your heatsink is not in backwards. The beveled part sticks through the front of the host...
Jay

I make the heatsinks and sell them with the o-ring shown in the tutorial. (first post) $23 dollars plus $3 dollars shipping.

Send me a PM if interested. Make sure your light is a DX sku 46, because there are many 'look alike' designs. And if it is not a DX sku 46, the heatsink may be fit a little differently...

Thanks jayrob your tutorial helped me create my own

Yes, there are a lot of 'look alike' hosts out there...

If the head unscrews from the body, it will be good for modifying into a laser. But most of them are really cheap, and the head does not unscrew. The parts are held in place only by the plastic lens, that is glued in.

That blue one looks interesting. I have not seen that one...

Now you mention it both of them do look like the lens's are glued in.
Shame as I like the look of the second blue one as well.

I might order one anyway just out of curiosity.

See, still new to this, so inner and outer ring is like going in one ear and out the other. Sorry! lol PM'd.

Just look at the picture to see the inner and outer ring that I am talking about. All of the contact points on the inner ring are connected to the spring in the center of the board.

And all of the contact points connected to the outer ring are negative...
