Tutorial: Micro- Lab Laser

I have a separate key chain for my computers. I can nearly make one for my lasers as well.

@eghemus, lonewolf and meatball.

all your builds look fantastic, for the other members thinking of making this and haven't decided on a power supply aixiz supply 3.2v or 5v regulated ones which are good for up to 500mA for 3.2v and 600mA for 5v.

3.2v - 500mA
Power supply 110-240VAC 3.2VDC 500mA with clips - eBay (item 360192375313 end time Apr-22-10 06:14:57 PDT)

5v - 600mA
Power supply 110-240 VAC 5.0VDC 600mA with clips - eBay (item 380171778862 end time Apr-24-10 07:35:43 PDT)

these are very good power supply's for the flexdrive.

stuart :)

That looks great just wish we could buy just the case and not the stuff inside it.

What do you guys do with the guts of it? any thing worth it for the parts bin or is it all smd?
Maybe be the guts up on ebay and see if you cant make some money back.

The insides are worthless. The original device is an array of 4 small resistors sitting on a pcb. Worth nothing, and easy to remove and clean out. Cleaning the enclosure is the easiest part of the build, and when they are available for $10, its so easy, I feel bad about it.

yeah but think i bet if you could find the manufacture you could pick them up for 3$, but you would have to order like 50 min.
But i think micro lab lasers in the bst could go fast...
Also if you can make this unit air tight a way to increase cooling would be to after you put every thing in fill it with mineral oil. its non conductive and 10X more heat transfer than air.

have you seen the oil cooled computerS??

its madness how oil can be used as a coolant

stuart :)

Yes, Yes i can. i had my cpu on it till i moved to phase change cooling. The same thing slushy machines use, There ability to run 24/7 in a hot environment is unsurpassed.

Using liquid convection is better than air convection since the heat conductor is more dense. Liquid inside the micro labby is an interesting idea... I wonder how many rubber gaskets and grommets it would take to seal off a micro labby.

you could use loctight just put it on all the edges then press it together and clean off the extra. You would have to fill it first tho but leave a little room for air.
