So I spent 2 hours tonight messing with ballast resistance. Trying to get a HeNe to light.

I could have saved a lot of time and frustration, and gone on to something more productive if I had just pulled on the HR a little harder:

yup. This HeNe had become an AirAir. Oh well, no big loss. It even appeared intact until I gave the HR a bit of a tug -- and the entire bore came out. But goes to show that the simplest explanation is often the correct one. :)

... Anyone want some mirror mounts and adjustment collars for the cost of postage? Alden cable, too!!

Actually, it *still* doesn't rattle, when the endcap is on and the bore is put back in. The mirror mount jutted out into a little 'pocket' of RTV, which kept it from moving.

PMs: Yeah guys I got them, sorry, wasn't on LPF for the last few hours :P
