Good, it is a nice expensive light.

Anyhow, look up Cree C6 DIY housing on DX, get some Aixiz modules
You can get modules from HTZ also, called Sure modules, same thing,

Basic components for DDL driver (3.3 ohm resistor for 380 mA current for LOC diode, LM317 reg, capacitor on uF range),

and you are good to go!
BTW, that is sure not a DVD burner sled, not one is plastic, as diodes produce a lot of heat.

Get LPC-815 sled from HTZ also, LOC diode in there will survive over 0.5 A, giving it a neat 380 mA will be excellent for first build,
And lastly, get a heatsink made here by a member, it will make you laser lase longer and live longer.

Nope, sorry.
If by any chance the sled IS from DVD burner (which I really think is not), you will get a SCC laser diode, those should not be driven near 300mA and are good up to 200mW AT BEST.

Which means, around 150mW of good diode life after lens.
So basically, a waste of Aixiz/Sure housing.

Did you disassemble Xbox 360?! Or what is '360' in the original post?
If you disassembled your gaming console, I am aftraid you have done terrible damage.

In the gaming console itself, there are no usable diodes what so ever. Only a <5 mW red diode and <5 mW IR diode used for DVDs and CDs respectively.
The part we use is HD-DVD addon drive which's sled is named PHR-803T and contains a 'reader' bluray diode, which can for some reason be pushed up to 120 mA and produce over 100mW of violet light.

Tell you what, instead of destroying uknown stuff, just buy sleds from HighTechDealz, Modwerx, or Stonetek here, and you will get the job done:

Adding to the "bash kipkay" thread, did anyone see the fake video he did about 6v lantern battteries that "supposedly" contain 32 AA batteries! I LOLed! :D A standard eveready 6V bttery contains four very large cells tack-welded together with metal strips.

I harvest those to salvage the zinc casings, the Manganese dioxide (the black stuff) and the neat carbon rod that is just perfect to be used as electrodes for electrolysis.

In the kipkay video, you clearly see when he pauses the video to switch the content of the cell to a handful of 1.5v unwrapped batteries that for some reason are not connected in any way to each other... I never understood the "why" of that video exactly, why waste people's time into thinking that they have found a source of 1.5v batteries? Even NurdRage mentions Kipkay's scam in this video: YouTube - Get Zinc, Carbon Electrodes and MnO2 from a Lantern Battery

I tried to find the Kipkay video but it's nowhere to be found. Guess he's been called on this one too many times... ;) Truly mind-boggling though. :O

aixiz and sure modules are not the same. they are both 12mm in diameter but the sure modules are shorter. you cant fit a rkcstr driver in sure modules..

I didn't know about the rkcstr as I never saw one of those. All I know is that it is based on LM1117 chip that I use, and I taylor my driver PCBs to needs of current host or module design I am using.

In addition to the review at the link above, the threading for the lens nut is also different. In the aiXiz the threading goes all the way to the bottom of the module. In the Sure, the threading does NOT go all the way down. This is a problem with the new "high efficiency" lenses which must be adjusted very close to the diode.

Finally, I don't think either aiXiz or Sure actually make the modules.

Well, Kendall mentiones that they thread further than Aixiz and are suitable for installation of Bluray diodes in there, so you can focus them normally while still having the focusing ring fully threaded on the lens.

The thread is still 9x0.5mm M9? I mean, lenses are interchangeable?

BTW, why do you type capital X, while actually it is AixiZ ? :D Just being picky!

This info is backward. The aiXiz is fully threaded and the Sure is partially threaded. This is only a problem with lenses with a short focal distance

The thread pitch and diameter are the same. The depth/length(?) of the threading is different. Jayrob has to lathe off the bottom section of threading on the lens nut to allow the High efficiency lenses to get close enough to the diode in a Sure module

The Sure module works fine *IF* you are using a "stock" lens AND the diode is fully pressed into the module. As I said, they are really only a problem for people using one of the high efficiency lenses and/or wanting to place the Rkcstr driver inside the module.

Well that is good then, I will pick up some Sure modules soon from Kendall then as I see no problems.

As in full press you mean, deeper than flush with the module?
I'll have to improvise something then.

But generaly no problem.
BTW, how are their stock plastic lenses compared to Aixiz's?

Yes. The diode should be pressed so that it is fully seated against the pocket.

They used to use the same supplier for their lenses. However, the last couple of shipments of modules I have gotten from aiXiz have had lenses that have the rear aperture fully open. I do not know if Sure is also using these new lenes. I haven't bought any Sure modules for a while

Making small 1mm hole on plastic holder of the lens was a bit of a *fail*.

The small aperture makes the beam look "rounder." People liked that more than they liked a higher output.

Please do post about the lens aperture when you get them.
