INTRODUCING;

THE E-DRIVE​

This driver has been more or less my baby, and we both have been pouring work and money and time into this driver, so we obviously hope it'll be successful!

The Elasti-drive is ..similar to a flex drive, but evolved into something better. That was the basic idea behind why we had decided to work on this, to create a better replacement for it plus adding in a ton of nice features the flexdrive lacks.

I've worked and worked on the size and awesomeness of the driver, solving various problems along the way as well. These drivers have been greatly tested for spikes and ripple issues, through real world testing (I think I killed about 3 LPC-826's?) and oscilloscope spike tests.

And I am finally confident enough to begin sale of these drivers. I have two builds of my own using my drivers, a 445 nm build at 800mW, and a LPC-826 build running at 250 mW!

Also, these are NOT final layouts; I've done a complete re-layout of the components... and found a much better solution. The new boards coming in soon will be 100 times better. They'll also have centered output pads!

Well, after a long time of inactivity, I've finally decided to release the E-drive as open source.

My Files

Is the link to the folder containing the board files.

All of the values are contained wherein the board files. It's been nearly a year since I've looked at the E-drive and as such I've completely forgotten most of them.

You will need;

1x TPS63060 (main IC chip)

1x SI2333CDS (P channel mosfet for reverse polarity protection)
(note: any low resistance low threshold voltage P channel mosfet will work)

1x 4.7 uF 0603 Capacitor

1x 500 ohm 0603 resistor

1x http://cds.linear.com/docs/en/datasheet/6106fa.pdf

1x 1 uF 0603 Capacitor

1x 22 uF 0805 capacitor

1x 1 uF 0603 capacitor

1x 0.1 uF 0603 capacitor

1x 0.01 uF 0603 Capacitor

1x 6k ohm 0603 resistor

Should be all of the parts. This is for the "mini" version, without the potentiometer.

For the adjustable versions you'll need

1x 14k ohm resistor (0402)

1x 100k ohm potentiometer (any 3 mm potentiometer single turn pot should work) TC33X-2-104E Bourns | Mouser is an example

1x 4.7 uF 0603 capacitor

For other versions the sizes for the boards may change, just follow them respectively on the board.

I do apologize for the somewhat sloppiness of it all; I was the only one who ever really worked on it itself.

I also do have a small batch of 20 boards that I could sell to someone for cheap if they'd like to start working on them immediately. Just send me a PM.
(they're project mini versions with a potentiometer)

Sounds nice... So it's a buck/boost...
Can I use 2 1.4V NiMH batteries (2.8V input)?

I just tested it out with two AA batteries, and achieved full power output with my LPC-826. HOWEVER, The IC itself is rated at 2.5 minimum voltage, so you'd have only .3 volts of leeway... So you may not get the longest run times in the world with two NiMH batteries.

Is about the best picture I can get with my iPhone... In a week I'll be back home, and I'll be getting a ton of stuff I've found I need, including a decent camera of some sort.

I also noticed I neglected to add a price to the main post, which I'll fix!

Nice drive Quack. About time we have flex replacement. It looks to have some very disirable attributes.Can't wait for the adjustable one.

A few more things,

1. A big thanks to Foulmist (aka Tom) for helping us get past an extremely annoying stumbling block we encountered along the way. People like him are what makes this forum so amazing!

2. I appreciate him giving me credit, but LeQuack is the true genius behind this operation. I played venture capitalist (sort of) to the poor starving college student and did a bit of soldering, testing and troubleshooting, but I don't think it would shock any of you to know that he was the brains behind this operation. This has truly been something that he has wanted to be able to do for a while.

3. I had a third thing, but I'm running late for work so I will try to get to it later today.

with the elastic drive getting much credit.;)

I think LeQuack is still trying to decide what will work best for him under the circumstances. Our goal was for him to make a modest profit but ALSO to make an affordable alternative to the flex, with added features.

Just for the record regarding the venture capitalist comment, I will not be profiting in any way from sales, that was my decision from the start, I just wanted to learn from him and be involved in the process and hopefully help the hobby and forum out, as well as help LeQuack see his driver come into existence.

My contributions were testing, troubleshooting and thought-starting and critiquing. I had the easy job, but we both learned that revision number one is rarely anyone's final product. I think this is Revision 5a.

I was also a cheerleader when it got frustrating because I believed in the design and I believed in LeQuack.

This will most certainly not be the last thing we bring to the forum.

I have weekly deliveries from osh park (dorkbot) coming in and some arrive already obsolete! :mad:

But that is part of the process, and I have been getting an undergrad education on electronics from LeQuack during the process!

Anyway, back to your question, I think it will depend on how easily and reliably these things reflow. We've been doing a lot of hand soldering/heat gun work so we aren't sure how production will go...

I am really excited about the adjustable pot versions, but they still need final testing.

We will have Foulmist do some final testing for us as well since he was very involved in helping us get through a tough spot and he has helped with the final stages. That will give us a fairly neutral third party to do some testing also.
