The Copper Behemoth!

Is it sitting on a fan? Through a door!! Thats amazing.

haha! yea I cheated a bit and gave it a little cooling system since I have never run any of my lasers longer than 5mins. The thing didnt even feel warm to the touch but that was to be expected. Gonna try some distance burn tests later this week just for fun...lets see if we. can't put a hole in some white paper ar 20 feet.... ooohhh..let's see who wins:) Copper Behemoth vs Plain white piece of paper deathmatch update later this week. place your bets folks! haha!

Or how about someone's brand new, brick house at 100 meters? :eg:

I vote for though 8 folded layers of a piece of paper then a small ball of steel wool behind it. If the paper ignites, the laser must shine until the paper has burned itself into the floor and isn't in the way, no moving anything!:eg:

But usually the steel wool ignition is always fun to watch. It's like a hundred little fuses burning in all directions :D.

Hey nick do you have an LPM ? It would be interesting to see how the power behaves with such a diode in your monster laser.

Hey since this thread is about my D Mag Custom head, I hope you don't mind if I share a couple pictures of my personal build that I just finished...

Note: With an SXB driver set at 2.3 Amps as pictured, it will put a huge current demand on your 32650 cell to boost the 5+ voltage demand. (over 4.5 Amps)

This means that there will be voltage sag even with a fully charged cell, and because of that, the voltage monitor will be showing blue (or cyan) only for a short time after full charge, and then 'green'. As seen in the beam shot picture...

Other notes:

9mm diode and stock 9mm lens
SXB driver at 2.3 Amps
2.6 Watts (sure wish I had a higher efficiency diode for this one)

One other note. In case your wondering why I have the front like that. It's because I like to have a dust cap for the lens. And also, I don't mess with the focus too much...

Hope you like it! :D

A suitable host for those new 5W diodes. Who wants to be the first one to own a handheld 650nm/660nm 5W laser? :D

That's the most exciting thing for me right now, in the interests of science

Nice work Jay. I like you mounted the driver on the heatsink.

The V2 are now all on one board.:) "Thread will be up shortly"

Glad to see you found a use for it.

Awesome sexy build in all.

Laik! Please say you are serious that there is a 650/660nm 5W diode out there! I haven't heard of such a thing. But then again, I've been knee deep into all things copper and 445nm lately so.... please confirm !

Wowza! A 5W red is definitely what this copper sink needs under the hood. It's like someone cloned Cyclops' eyeballs! Thanks for the info. That just made my day!
