TBH, I lost the will to chase the picture all over the screen whilst remembering what I had seen before.... I will wait for smaller pictures....... :-/

[edit]One thing I did notice, solder the wires to the pot as there is every chance you could end up with an open circuit with them twisted on like that....[/edit]

so with an 803T, i'm using a test load of 1ohm resistor and 6x IN4001 diodes in series. correct so far? also how much voltage drop over the diodes should i get, and how much mV through the resistor?

Correct so far :)

Do not worry too much about the voltage drop, you are interested in the mv across the 1ohm resistor. I think I am right in saying that your mv reading is very near to the mw output of an 803T LD, so setting this figure is dependant on how lucky you feel.....I killed 2 803T's @ 120mv, I ended up using 110mv and it is still going strong.

Just be sure, when testing, that you have sufficient voltage, 9v is ideal...... you may just scrape through with 7.2v, to be certain measure the ref voltage, it must be 1.25v, if it is any lower more volts are needed.

Hope that helps

With firefox i just right click and go to 'view image'. It then resizes it in the window for me. ;)

I could of course right click/save as...open in photo suite etc etc....
I will help anyone who helps themselves....If Droyd will resize the image I will look at it again.

*tried firefox, didn't like it*

thanks rog. and this test load should also work the same way with my lava flexdrive right?? sorry for all the questions but this is my 3rd bluray diode :(

Unless someone wades in to say otherwise my answer is yes. Your test load, as built, is just a "pretend LD", as such it will make the driver work in the same way as if it had a real LD attached.

This thread was created specificaly for the DDL driver and I have never used a lavadrive so I do not know if there is any kind of reference voltage you can measure to be sure that the driver is regulating correctly. I suggest you search for lavadrive threads to be sure of what you are doing......Killing LD's hurts I know...but it is part and parcel of the hobby ;)

Ok I am using 4 IN4004 diodes and a 1 ohm resistor but getting nothing near the ma output for testing, but I know I am supposed to be getting 412mv as per 1.25/3=.412. When I use just the 1 ohm resistor I get .412ma on the Amp setting, so is this ok.

Sorry for late reply, been on holiday :)

You should have the meter on mv.... I know that converts directly to ma but just want to be sure you are doing it correctly, you should read .412v...

I am pretty sure you can use any of the 1N400 series diodes.

My PHR803T has just died on 100mA (worked only for 10 seconds)

Everything is just fine, but I don't see light :-?
I got really bad sample

No, that is not possible.
Diode has been installed in axiz case all time and connected to driver.
First, I tried 40mA and it worked.
But then I gave 100mA and after 10 seconds it started dimming.
Then diode completly died.

Damn...I have to buy another one, and it's not cheap if you are not US citizen.

Where can I find this diode for less money and where international shipping is free or cheap?
High Tech DealZ or?

I am afraid that PHR 803T LD's do die, even at 100ma, another one may be happy for hours at 120ma it is all the luck of the draw.

At least you are giving it a chance at 100ma, fingers crossed for the next one.
