Hello everyone ,
Hammy here, just dropping by with a little suggestion to how reviews can be done.
Its by no mean authoritative ,just sharing with the community how I do my reviews.
The template below is based on the CNI laser review I did earlier.
http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/review-cni-pgl-iii-c-532nm-500mw-nominal-83951.html#post1212989
So HERE WE GOOOoooo

Hiya there folks.
[INSERT NAME HERE] here .
My [INSERT NO. HERE] laser just came in , and this time.
Its [INSERT MANUFACTURER'S NAME] from [Country Origin] with its [PRODUCT NAME].

[That is my grading standard]
I'll rate this laser on 3 points.
1: Delivery (Full mark 10%:5% on the Shipping date -1% for each day of delay; 5% on the packing, -5% if not packed with shock absorbers)
2: Appearance and peripheral functions(Full mark 20%)
3: Output /Burning Ability (Full mark 70%, -20% for each 10% underspec)

1: DELIVERY : (That means the process of ordering and receiving the product)

[INSERT COMMENT on the delivery here]
(So thumbs up for that . But comparatively speaking , this process has been quite a hassle. )
x% for the shipping(Score)

Lets check out the package.

[INSERT DESCRIPTION of the Packing]

It gets x% for the packing and commentate

Moving onto the laser.

Weighting at x g , and about x cm long.
Its pretty much the [INSERT Adjective] of the laserworld

[INSERT DESCRIPTION of host : material , comparison to other hosts, FDA compliance, etc ]

500px-Insert_image_here.svg.png

This laser runs on a x V [INSERT DESCRIPTION of power source]
[INSERT COMMENT on the host's design on adapting to its power source]

[INSERT PICTURE of the battery used]
500px-Insert_image_here.svg.png

For criteria 2 , I give this a x%.

[INSERT DESCRIPTION of its theoretical power and LPMed power]
On paper, this should churn out at least xmW after collimation, but does it?
500px-Insert_image_here.svg.png

The Test Report they supplied stated that it'll pump out at least x mW... yet..... when I LPM it with my [INSERT DESCRIPTION of LPM Model]

It peaked at x mW after collimation.
Thats a x % overspecs.

[INSERT COMMENT on the performance :LPM Graph here]

Unfocused

Much tighter beam specs when compared to the 445nm

Slow Shutter speed = Light Painting

x%

Giving this laser as of the moment , a score of x%

[INSERT SUMMARY and CLOSING REMARK ]

Sample
Is it a good laser??,,,, :undecided:
Kinda... the lack of protection for the lens does leave me kinda frustrated.
ESPECIALLY when they stated there will be a shutter to protect the lens and against accidental discharge...

Performance wise, it does what it says.
However.... aesthetics wise and peripherals do leave a lot to be desired....

I'll recommend this laser to any person with quite a bit of prior experience with lasers.
Since it does require considerably more care.
Its on the grey zone between lab equipment and handheld lasers .
Doesn't fit on regular flashlight holster. You'll need a baton holder for this one.

Not to mention the instantaneous community laser awareness day this thing will attract

Remember to clicky klackity the Rep button if this review helped ya out eh?

EDIT:

[INSERT IR LEAK TEST if needed]
Added IR Leak Test :
Just did an IR leak check on the module.
The IR Filter used is this one from O-like
808nm,1064nm IR filter [OL-FL] - $3.50 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce
With a visible light transmission of 97.5%

This is the one without adding my own IR filter. ( I actually ran the test to 90 sec, but LaserBee's interface isn't showing my later stats . the CSV excel doc does have the data tho, if you want the data , I'll plot it and cap it for ya)

This one is the one WITH my IR filter.

Is there any IR leak?
Well I don't know , but after considering the visible light absorbance of the filter , it shouldn't be a concern.
I THINK , I'm not going to swear my life on it tho.
I had to hold the IR filter with my finger against the focus cap . So its REALLY HARD to keep it in place.

[INSERT UPDATE of incidence of interest]

UPDATE :

It appears the so called "focusable function" of the laser isn't that focusable after all.
I kept on screwing the lens cap , the only thing that happened was the lens assembly screwing itself off. Don't expect their focuse assembly to give you the fan shape or flashlight cone

UPDATE 2: 09/08/13 (DD/MM/YY)

CNI has machined a custom shutter unit for me and is going to send it to me free of charge as it wasn't mentioned at the time of purchase.
More update coming soon.

Thanks. Book marked. Although I probably won't include quite this much info in my reviews to come. :)

ahh well I guess so.
When I switch from my 24inch to my laptop, most of my pics are oversized lol
800x600 is good enough for most cases

PLEASE size your pics for all--scrolling side to side is a PITA and does NOT need to be that way-- we can 'ctrl +' if WE want bigger pics-
hak's two sense(s)
