Super Beast Green

Tried to boost the power of the original Super Beast by pot mod.
Just turned it very slightly, less than 1/8 turn. Killed it. Turning back to original
setting had no effect. I puts out a faint green now, couple of mW. :(
 





I thought by now everyone had heard....That the bird is the word.
*also never pot mod lasers*
 
I hear ya bro, there are a lot that have no idea about the risks involved or the actual effect pot modding has on a diode.
Your experience has come hard won with a few dead soldiers ^_^
Thanks for taking a chance and trying to push this laser by the way, it will stop a lot of others killing the "super beast" the same way ;)

Hey everyone. I've lurked here forever, but just recently opened an account. I bought this Super 100 about a week ago (Based on this thread actually!) and just got around to taking some shots with it in my apt. I know they aren't great, but like a lot of you I like pretty pics of beams :) I would try a pic outside but when I tested it, the beam so brightly flagged the origin point, I decided against it. I dont need to advertise to the neighborhood that I have a laser. Especially with a Sheriff's dept 2 blocks away.

I was floored by how bright the spot is (lights up the room easily)! I had to aim at dark objects to even get a decent pic. I was able to smoke a match with the beam focused, but have not had success in lighting it. I might try the sharpie method mentioned earlier.

I got mine today, and I'm very pleased with it. Mine included what appears to be a genuine panasonic CR123A primary. I'm pleasantly surprised.

I forgot to mention that! Mine was shipped with a Panny battery too.

Nice pic btw. WAAAY better than mine!! :beer:
 
Mine have all come with the Panasonic.

1.21: yours looks as bright as mine WAS [read above -- I killed mine due to ignorance and overzealous use]. As long as I kept the on-time under 1 min and the rest-time to a few mins, it was burning at 165mW (even had one 167mW run!).

On a slightly different note (sampson, etc.): what is the best AAA battery for lasers? Is this something worth looking at:

CH-V6988 Charger 110V with 10 AA 2600mAh Cells and 10 AAA 1000mAh Cells

Today a friend brought over an Opto 75mW pen and some AAA NiMH rechargeables (forget what brand) to see what the output power was with them. It was very erratic and had trouble even lasing. The fresh charge voltage was 1.3V. I'd say stick with Everready or Duracell Alkalines.
 
the best AAA cells are eneloop - they keep good voltage under load and don't discharge by themselves much!
 
FWIW my 405 pen from him runs at astable 45mw on 2 eneloops versus 48 on standard AAAs. The 532 pen runs at ~24-26mw on the eneloops versus 38mw on alkalines. I haven't bothered measuring the IR from it but I wouldn't be shocked if it was close to 50%. Since it mode hopped like mad with both and I couldn't see any obvious change in beam brightness from 26-38mw (I'm betting it's almost all IR) I'm going to stick with the convenience of rechargeables for both pens.
