How about some links to what you are referring to..
You will also need to quantify how much a "notch" is...

that's one of those diffraction grating sound-activated RGB DJ light show thingies.

Likely an RGB ReKe is the next step, with ILDA PC attachment.

I dunno about the Reke. If he wants a diffraction grating effect, he might just upgrade to an RGB diffraction grating system. It'll light up the club or whatever with moving laser patterns.

A Reke is fine and good if you want to draw pictures. However, I wouldn't want to rely on the lame flickery images it comes with, nor do I think everyone is ready to invest in a DAC to run a projector with custom images -- if the Reke is capable of drawing them decently in the first place.

Well, you could take a look at the projectors that Laserman has. I got one of those MINI-10RGBs and they're were okay. The patterns were pretty goofy, but it does draw images and is different than those diffraction grating type systems. Something like this might be good too. It just uses beams, but they look pretty nice and sometimes better than lame patterns.

The Reke 500RGB is a favorite around this forum, but the in-built patterns are kind of goofy, and people here are more interested in hooking them up to a DAC, which add's some cost.

Oh yeah, you should list how much you're willing to spend.

If you switch the dip-switches on the back it should start up in that mode. One thing you might consider is wiring a microphone pre-amp to the microphone input. As-is, they're not very sensitive, and you could even use it to drive a signal yourself in case you don't want to rely on the sound.

I've never seen a Reke sold locally. They're the typical Chinese product that are inexpensive, cheaply made, don't have all those safety features, but are pretty decent for what they are. You might be able to get one from eBay, but I doubt you'd find one at a shop as the projector would probably open up the shop to liability.

you can get some pretty sweet Dmx controllers for super cheap now. there is a guy selling usb to dmx for windows mac and linux for ~50usd

Thanks to Hakzaw1, I got in on his last LK-PD2 group buy.

I have nothing but high regards for the speed and convenience of the transaction.

The projector is fantastic IMHO, and It suit all my needs at this time.
I will no doubt end up getting more involved with these magical machines.
But for now I'm really happy with the LK-PD2.

I Too got the LK-PD2 in the group buy! I am MOST pleased with this projector!
It will go well with my reke500rgb.
When combined with QuickShow software (see Hakzaw1 for a deal) ..Both do a great job...especially impressing my better half (so she doesn't question the $$$) ;)
If you don't have the $$$$ budget or knowhow/time to build your own... I would highly recommend researching and seeing the videos on these machines.
And...if you want to make the most of a laser (with ilda input port) check out QuickShow. Great bang for the buck! Especially for a beginner.
