Just like anything else, it's possible to get it right the first time. Just like anything else, you probably won't get it right the first time. But as you learn your kill ratio will decrease. At least I hope mine will.

You can do what im doing. I bught 4 diodes yet I only need 1. If my first attempt is a sucess then you have others that you can use in order to make extra devices or to use as spare's for when the diode goes. If you are truely a beginnner you may want to get an extra ammount. And if you make more laser modules that work you most likely can sell them for profit.
Take Daedals' advice "Buy Multiples"

Quick question for SenKat on the aixiz-style housings for sale w/ the diodes.. which style of lens holder do they have, the black plastic or the larger metal one? I have one of the plastic kind and don't care much for it
My order is going in today (finally got paid!) and I will probably be good for 5 diodes, but if the housings have metal caps I will probably get at least that many housings as well.

They are the ones with the plastic/acrylic lenses, not the metal ones. If you are referring to the little metal end cap piece, Aixiz sells those as line generating optic holders as an add-on for the modules....they used to ship those out free, but no longer do so.

Just added another 2 diodes to my order and am about to also order 2 Aixiz magic machines
SenKat you can ship those to me at the same time as the diodes if that isn't already a given- That way you save moolahs.

Just placed my order for 2 blu-rays and 5 sen-kats
One of each is going to a coworker who wants to try some builds, the remaining are for my own nefarious purposes...
I'm still not sure what to do about housings... I may just buy the ones SenKat has, but I was really hoping to get the ones with the larger metal piece around the focus ring.. If anyone knows where to find these (or an easy trick for converting the plastic ones) let me know...
SenKat, if I'm unable to find these, do you have extra modules on hand such that I could add them to my order even after the GB has gone out?

There is a converter somewhere online that clips onto the 5.6mm can to turn it into 9mm

It's not so much a matter of procrastination as a matter of $$. You can only buy things when you have $$, and I had to steal some back from the moths to buy in on these.
As far as the housings, I snagged one of the blank packs Aixiz put up on eBay. I'll be filling these with some of the arriving diodes. Those of a different form factor will get alternate housings, and possibly a homebrew heatsink or two.
