any advice on how far/close should my bottom lens be in order to get a good beam to burn? I am having a hell of a time trying to even burn a dry maple leaf :(

We need more information about you loser. A lot of lasers have some focusing knobs.

2Watt 445nm

@Mr. Beamz

In the very front of the laser, there is a focusing knob. Turn that to tighten your dot diameter. Put your goggles on, and wiggle the knob and see where the dot is smallest, and you can concentrate all of your 2W beam into that small spot.

That should be where you're burning stuff.

Cheers! :beer:

Edit: I usually like to burn stuff at 5-10cm from the laser. Don't get too close or the smoke may damage your lens.

Yeah I have messed with the focusing knob already...I am refering to the small lens that the adapter screws onto. .. I am wondering if I should de-solder the driver and make sure everything is in order on the underbody. This host has a AC plug built into it, so all I have to do is plug it into the body and away it charges.

What type of diode???? How much current??? What type of lens???? Battery type or voltage????? What driver are you using?

Edit If I was a betting man I would say the diode is being starved for power, but I'm not going to bet.

using a UltraFire 18650 30800mAh 3.7V
v5 flex driver

if it's being starved for power...what's the best way to crank it up a bit?

First see if it is being starved for power. Take the tailcap off and use a DMM to measure the current through the battery and the host.

a buddy of mine did a long time ago..

Sorry to be harsh, but if your serious about finding out whats going on in regards to this "2W" unit your going to have to be more forthcomming in your information. It's a bit daunting trying to ask your particulars and then awaiting your return corrisponds.

I tell you what make a vid with the unit fully charged "assuming you know how to tell if the unit is fully charged" and post it here with you going thru the process of turning on the unit and focusing the unit to burn. Hopefully if you do this you will be wearing protectoin and then we will see if I at least can turn you in the right direction.:beer:

Lier, I recognize this, it's one of AnthoT's lasers that a seller called pr0jkt stole off him, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right
